Re: Technique to strengthen thin wood

We build thin bodies with almost all the wood removed in the center where your weights are,we fill the axle slots with a clear 2 part epoxy that dries in about 5 minutes. We also coat any inside corners and rails, never had one to break yet. The epoxy can be sanded and painted. We paint then apply ep...

Re: Too much polishing on axles?

HW
The axles that you can get from Revell in their WHEEL/AXLE kits that are from China are far better than the ones you get from the Scout Kits.Look for the wheel container with the clear plastic top,not the ridged top like the ones you get at the Scout Shop.

Re: First Place District.........However, just 3rd palce in

You have to cut the race committee some slack, every Pack race i go to someone feels that the race results were wrong or their was a problem with the scoring in some way.At our District race we had a dad complain that his son,s car should have been in the runoff race because it was faster than some o...

Re: is it too early to start thinking about the 2012 car?

In our District we allow boys to start work on next years car as soon as the District race is over.We may have to adjust this date next year because we are planning on starting back our Council Pinewood Derby. They can get a good start since they already have all the tool out and are still excited a...

Re: How to Cut Narrow Body and Install Weight

We use a wood planer to plan down the bodies to about 3/16.We cutout everything except 1/4" upfront and leave about 7/16" at the axle slots, sides rails 3/16"wide,then we strengthen the body with epoxy.Lead is poured into matching body molds, then epoxied into car. These cars are the fas...

Re: Thanks!!

We always blame the first derail on the track then re-run the cars and if it derail again it takes a loss. Then we have the owner of the car take it to the pit area to see if the problem can be fixed. We make every effort to make sure everyone has a car that can make it down the track without problems.

Re: Pointed Fronts - a word of caution

Our Best Track has the start pin that have a soft plastic sleeve that covers them. They will hold a very sharp pointed car with out any problem. But you are right about the pointed cars at the finish line
