Re: Small derby - got any advice?
I think a 13 car round robin would work well. That would be 78 heats. Give the winning car 2 points & the 2nd place car 1 point. Total points wins.

Re: Post your jigs and other time saving devices (some pics)
OMG. Are you kidding me? Is that what that threaded part is opposite the blade on my radial arm saw. I'm about to take a 1/2 day off work & check my saws right now. This will make my life much easier this year. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Cutting axle slots
I don't think you could keep the sawzall perpendicular to the block to make the cuts.

Re: Wheel matching
Though, if you are looking for the lightest block, you may just have to weigh a whole bunch of unopened boxes to see which is lightest. I wouldn't image that the weight of the wheels, axles, rule sheet and sticker decals would vary by much. I take my scale to the scout shop & weigh th...

Re: Wood, wood, and more wood
Final note: A few weeks ago I was comparing the weight of "out of the box" blocks (I couldn't resist...) and found that out of a group of 5 there were 4 very similar and 1 MUCH heavier, nearly double the others. Not sure how common that is, but keep that in mind as you seek to add more wo...

Re: Rail Riding Delima
Now that is an interesting idea. I could have "This side up for pack race" & "This is up for districts". I wonder if someone would consider that 2 cars.

Rail Riding Delima
Here is my issue. The district track is a thirty something feet best track. I really want a rail rider for this track, but our pack track is not so nice. I'm afraid that a rail rider will catch on the local track & we'll never make it to districts. Our den impounds the cars after the race, so I ...

Re: What collets for spinning BSA axles in Taig lathe
I found that folks that know how to turn axles in a lathe aren't real chatty about how to do it. I think that is because they spend many hours trying to perfect it. Anyway here is what I did. I had an extra dremel tool flex shaft. Similar to this. http://www.dremel.com/en-us/attachments-and-accessor...

Re: Slow Starts
After looking at the race video closely, I see we are consistently behind in the downhill section. Our car really flew on the flat. This was on a 48ft track. We would not have finished 2nd on a 28ft track. I see in one of the videos that we are at least an inch behind after the first few car lengths...

Slow Starts
We ran Districts today & finished 2nd. I noticed when looking at the video we are consistently slow on the starts, but pass cars down the track. What kinds of things should I be looking for to fix this?
