Re: First pinewood derby experience!! And now a few questions...

Here was my car. I was worried when pressing the nails in that the body would crack. I could feel the slot spreading apart when pressing in the front wheel nails. http://i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p578/megajoules/Scouts%202018/2018-02-24%2008.06.15%201_zpsu5uahrl7.jpg I like the Pro-Axle guide fo...

Re: First pinewood derby experience!! And now a few questions...

If you break 3 seconds on stock wheels and axles, that's dang good. That said, remember that track times vary widely, even for tracks of the same length and same brand. Heck, the "speed" of a track can change just by setting it up in a different location. Don't get too hung up comparing times from o...

Re: First pinewood derby experience!! And now a few questions...

Can you post a link to your rules? If I can see the rules, I can give my recommendations for what I'd do if I were trying to squeeze more speed out of the car.

Re: Can I have some help?

What tools do you have at your disposal? I have a hammer, some spare axles, card stock for wheel spacing, screwdrivers, and a lot of other stuff. What kind of tools are you talking about? The tools they recommended online were the Pine Car Axle Slot Jig, Pine Car Wheel Alignment Tool, and the Pine ...

Re: Can I have some help?

Hello guys I need your help again. I am now installing the wheels and axles and I am trying to install them straight and square to the axle hole. I have been watching some videos on how to do this and they all recommend a tool that I don't have the time to buy right now. Is there a way to do this w...

Re: Wheel Bore Wax?

If you're going to use the Liquid Glass strictly for polishing wheel bores you might decide to sell some. So very little is used a 16 ounce can will probably last forever. If you advertise it in your area where shipping doesn't become involved and get 3 or 4 dollars for a small amount you will soon...

Re: Wheel Bore Wax?

There is a 16 ounce can of Liquid Glass, Gold can with Red Corvette, on eBay, seller is louie766. Starting bid is $15.99, $7.00 shipping. I paid $20.00 for the identical can and the shipping happened to be Free at the time. If what they advertise is true, it is well worth the price. Honestly, if yo...

Never tried them, but they look like they'd be a decent final polishing step.

Re: Wheel Bore Wax?

I know this is an old post but I’m hoping someone can help me. I came across this while doing research on preppinh wheel bores and I was going to try and order liquid glass but apparently it’s not sold anywhere anymore. What are people using now in place of liquid glass. Thanks in advance There are...

Re: Pinewood derby knowledge test.

Huhn, the axles sold "back in the day" look better than what comes in the kits now. :) I wish I had a Hobby Lobby here. Michael's is all we got locally. Speaking of Novus #2, I have heard (but not confirmed) that the Container Store sells large bottles of it for a lot cheaper than you'll find elsewh...

Re: Best placement for 3/8" lead wire weights

VK, Said as seen above .. that you were allowed to move the axle holes. (and asks for suggestions on weight placement ) I asked about moving the last weight pocket hole higher up in the design.. And with what Speedster said I applaud him for talking about the 3/8 lead weight & getting more weight b...

Re: Best placement for 3/8" lead wire weights

I was wrong. I thought my friend told me the lead came from Bass Pro Shop. It is not lead. It is steel. VK, you said you filled up the holes. That should amount to about 4 ounces. How deep are those holes? They're drilled deep enough to accomodate a 1.5" length of wire. I drill down as far as I can...
