Re: Adhesive vinyl -for underbody
I've only tried some aluminum foil tape that I found at Home Depot. Some say it is strong enough to not have to glue your weight in, simply tape over it. Haven't tried that yet, but it does seem to work well. It does add some weight though. Don't know what brand it is. birddog Yep. HCAV aluminum ta...

Re: Storing and Transporting impounded Cars?
While I'm not dismissing this point, the arrangement pre-dates my involvement and has already been decided on, in terms of policy and what's been announced, and what spaces have been rented. But again, this is what our situation is, and while I'm not chuffed to pieces about storing and transporting...

Re: Inside hub seam??
Stan Pope is where I got the technique from, though I'm not as careful as he is because I haven't figured out how to make the guide yet. Too much time on the road for work this derby season. I bought the #40 straight fluted chuck reamer off of ebay. I was more comfortable with it than the twist flut...

Re: Have you seen issues with fixed axle location rules?
Richard, forgive my ignorance, but how can you identify Chinese axles by the tip? I understand about the American axles, but didn't know the Chinese were identifiable by the tip. Chinese axles have a cone tip, like this: http://www.maximum-velocity.com/pics/4093.jpg (Those are aftermarket, not Chin...

Re: Inside hub seam??
Do you mean inside the bore? If so, I use a chuck reamer to ream them all and then polish them.

Re: Storing and Transporting impounded Cars?
I said it in the other thread, and I'll sat it again here: I don't see the point in what you're trying to do. Is it easier to come up with a solution to store and transport 50-60 cars for a week, or just have check-in immediately before the race? What happens if they can't meet requirements during c...

Re: For those of you who run colored wheels...
We bought one set each and went with it. Still had the top 5 cars in the pack, and all ran colored wheels except mine. My wheels came from one kit box.

Re: How to keep eBay cars out of your race
But the main problem I have with eBay cars is that they completely subvert the whole purpose of the derby. The purpose of the derby is not to see which block of wood crosses the finish line first. The purpose of the derby is to promote adult–child relationships, craftsmanship, and good sportsmanshi...

The family we disqualified from our 2013 derby spent $375 on three cars, not including shipping, according to the completed auctions we found of the cars.resullivan wrote:If anyone knows of a person that buys cars for $600 please give them my contact information.

Usually this kind if change reflects a couple of possibilities. One is that they are concerned about a noticable drop in registrations and fear they aren't going to have a large enough turnout to cover costs. Second, on top of the first, there may be some thought that the scouts who didn't do well ...

Re: time expectations for test track
I preface this by saying it's a totally educated guess.
Pro built cars are doing ~12.5 fps on 35 ft tracks, so you'd want somewhere ~10fps or greater on such a short track.

Re: Critiquing a critique of rail riding.
The problem with this type of testing is that not all things are equal, and he's comparing Awana cars, which can't necessarily be applied to BSA cars. His testing, while somewhat scientific, are not absolutely so, nor is his sampling size statistically relevant if he's only performing one test on on...
