Re: Power tools
Most scroll saw guys will tell you if you can get 30 min or longer out of a blade your doing good. For making tighter turns and cuts with the heaver & thicker blades.. I like to use an EZE-LAP diamond hone & stone and round over the back side of the blade while it's running. Befor trying to ...

Re: Power tools
I feel like I have more control on the scroll saw than I do the band saw. Looks like I might be in the minority in that opinion though. I also like the scroll saw. But i'll be the first to tell you it wasent made to cut woods up to 3'' thick. Where the bandsaw can walk through it faster. However th...

Re: 2012 Derby Status Report
I just got home from my 25th derby. Yep, it's been that long. Darin, Congrats on that 25th derby. I took 2nd in design and 3rd in speed (which was my first speed award). :bigups: My car was a father–son camping trip: father and son figures sitting on a log while their foil dinners cooked on ...

Well, technically they made them out of cambria quarts.
And it looks like they are running with H style wheels also.
Thanks Randy.

Re: Crash Strength.
Sporty, I noted: just how fast you really are! And that you rushed off to post on a different topic to use a (20 min epoxy) on the front of that car as well. ;) But I also like what you wrote: many people, do not take that into account when building a car or.. Haven't seen your axel hole drilling ti...

Re: Crash Strength.
John 4840, I've seen the the video you have posted about it.
prior to painting the cars I make I like to use a wood hardner such as minwax
to harden the wood.
Have any of you tryed it on your cars?

Crash Strength.
When designing your car how important is it to build in some crash strenth? I asking this question.. because when I first started posting on DT. FS, brought up a very good point about the vintage style cars with the wheels hanging out front of the car. And now when I look upon a few topics posted ab...

Re: Sons 2012 entry in out pack pinewood derby
I know, I'm just wierd that way. :D When I look at your sons car I see a car that is shaped like an arrow, & that is arrow dynamic. But in the paint I see at the tip.. A brown bird flying in the blue sky with clouds of gray. And just behind that I see Cliff the Red Dog running threw the green g...

Re: Flat vs. Canted Axles?
Axle angle plays a role in the speed of the car. Haveing the axles angle upward has two effects on the car. First,it mimimizes the amount of wheel surface that contacts the track. Consider this fact; the less wheel surface that contacts the track, the less friction that occurs to slow the car down. A...
