Re: Pics with Start Ramp and Racing

Dang!! That looks like fun!! Our street would be perfect for that race. I don't think we (our Pack) could ever do it because of liability issues. Pardon my ignorance, but why do the kids sit off center in the cars?? You don't have to run them down a ramp. You can just have fellow scouts push them.

Re: Birthday Party Suggestions

Thanks for the suggestions. I had planned on inserting a couple of ounces of weight in each car prior to the childrens arrival but it would be great if they could add their own weight. Anybody know of a glue that dries in a minute or less that you would let a five year old play with? Could use 5 mi...

Re: Interested in regatta

I personally don't have a problem with split hulls but the reason behind it is that the split hull designs should tend to be a lot more stable than single hull design. Out pack does not allow the split hull maybe to keep the playing field level and put a little more emphasis on the boys steering the...

Re: How to strengthen wood for weak design?

FWIW, at our Council Derby Races this year, I noticed the TOP Finishers all had a thin, full-length, machined metal plate along the bottoms of their cars - complete with recessed screws. At first, I thought they were just the pinecar weights that recess into the body - but a second look showed thes...

Re: Advice for Districts?

I would reapply the graphite as you did before either with the puffer since you can't pull the wheel. Either spin it good 20 - 30 times or drive it on something very smooth (similar to a track) 20-30 feet to break in the graphite. Maybe give them a quick spin before turning in your car for the races.

How many heats did you run with the original lube job? How many heats will there be for districts? How are axels fastened in?

Re: Stanley tries to carry on his Brother's Tradition

I've been pondering how to get Grandpa out of the bench saw business! Suggestions? Think you might get better results setting up a cutting guide and making a piece of wood setup to push the block through. Think it might be a bit of work for the scout to be sawing through that manually, probably be ...

Re: What's the Force ???

Things don't go to bad if you have the winder they sell in the scout shop. They do a 4 - 5 to 1 with the gears they use. Maybe you might want to use their gearing and just come up a attachment that would wind multiple winders. I'd be alittle careful of those plastic winders the scout shop sells. We...
