Re: Boys did well at Districts
We were on the same 35' best track as our pack race. Times were a little slower around 2.55-2.6. My younger son raced on a wooden track with a gradual slope down the length of the track. It looked like 32'. They ran the finals on a fast track (?). I think mid-April is good timing for a dist. race. M...

Boys did well at Districts
My older son finished first in Webelos and first overall. My younger son finished first in Tigers and second overall. My older son didn't lose a heat race all day. I wish it would have been a little more competitive. He won just about every race by a car length or more. It was a late district race (...

I tell my son that the harder he works, the luckier he'll get.

Re: Axle
One thing I did on my track w/o a timer. I started the car about 6" up the slope to see how far it would run out. I picked a starting height that wouldn't allow it to run all the way to the stop section. I would mark the distances it would go as I made adjustments to the DFW. After getting the ...

Re: Getting ready to retire
Thanks for all you've done Sporty! We've used alot of your techniques and it has made us the ones to beat at the pack & district levels. Sometimes it's fun to find something new and feel that excitement again.

Congrat's. It's really fun to see them win again when you don't neccesarily expect them to.

Pack race success!
My Webelos 1 son finished first in pack and my Tiger finished 3rd in pack. They were both really excited and the heats were close. It was fun to see my Tiger beat both his older brother and the 2nd place car in one heat of the finals. We raced on the same 35' Best Track that we raced on at districts...

"Test and Tune" tonight
We have our test and tune tonight. The only thing I think we'll need to possibly adjust will be how much toe-in the front dominant wheel needs. Will the car generally run it's fastest times with the toe-in set just enough that it keeps the car stable? I'm not sure if any runs will be timed. Any othe...

Re: Graphite dispenser cavity?
Just a thought, I built a drift boat for fishing rivers. The recommended treatment for the bottom was to mix graphite with epoxy to coat the bottom. The idea was it would help it slide over rocks. The mixture blended real well and may work on a smaller scale for a surface treatment where the hub con...

Re: Who else races on a 35' Best Track?
We raced on a 35' Best Track at districts last year. My son took 2nd place overall with an average of 2.58. I would say your sons times are very good. All tracks will vary a little bit but that's a good time. We will be having a 35' Best Track for our pack race this year (we're hiring the pack from ...

Re: Slow starting car
My sons & I used Sporty's technique for rear wheel alignment on their cars yesterday. My Web 1's car kept hooking right no matter how I adjusted it. He kept saying "somethings wrong dad". After another spin test of the wheels we noticed the right rear vibrated after a few seconds. That...

Re: Shaping of wheels and other rule contradictions
I think #8 is a strange rule. Why would someone drill axle holes if they wouldn't qualify to race at the district level. Assuming the same car must be used it doesn't make sense. They must have had alot of problems with lightened wheels and an inability to disqualify them at inspection. A simpler wa...

What are you doing differently in this years PWD build?
I've got a son who is a Tiger & a son who is a Web. 1. This year we're going to do a better job polishing axles. We ordered the Jewkes polishing kit. We have to use the axle slots. We filled them with epoxy and drilled them out using the pro-body tool and a dremel last year. This year we made su...
