Re: Free Templates to Create and Use at Your Workshops
...but as to its durability with reuse... :idk: I've used the cardboard template process through 13 workshops over the last 4 years (well over 300 cars built). I haven't had to replace one yet, but now that I have them in electronic form it is an easy process to do once they finally wear out (one o...

Free Templates to Create and Use at Your Workshops
Over the past six years I've been drawing up and collecting templates during the off seasons to be used at my workshops. Recently I have re-drawn the vast majority of them (over 120 templates) and scanned them into electronic format (PDF files) so that I can easily pass them on to others for them to...

Re: New district and council - no races
Got to agree with FS, don't give up here. If you have the rules written and defined well ahead of time then there is nothing anyone has to argue about. Forget round table, write a proposal and schedule an appointment with the District event chair. Explain that you have a dedicated experienced team (...

Re: Lester Racing still in business?
If it comes to a point that you are no longer willing to deal with the vendor, you can always go to your credit card company and explain that you haven't recieved the merchandise for which the vendor billed you. The credit card company can then reverse the charge from your credit card bill. -Nitro Dan

Re: The 2011 Line-Up
What are you using as the canopy ballast? To me it looks a little different than the usual commercial tungsten canopy . The canopies are Split Wooden Pullet Eggs that you can find at your local craft store for about 50 cents each. I buy them in bulk and give them to the kids as canopies at our work...

The 2011 Line-Up
This year turned out to be fairly good. My son crossed over last year, but I stayed on with the pack and accepted the role of the Pack Committee Chairman. Its a lot more work than I thought it would be, but I don't seem to mind it that much. I ran the workshops this year and also was the PWD Race Co...

Re: "It's all About Having Fun"
BTW, do you have any pics of your "carrying trays"? The larger ones (holding 15 cars each) are listed with pictures over in this thread: http://www.derbytalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=5457" target="_blank The smaller one used for carrying the cars from the end of the track ba...

Re: "It's all About Having Fun"
In order to have fun with Pinewood Derby, you have to keep focused on the original purpose. Pinewood Derby is about you and your son building a car together, the good times you had working on it together, and creating something that you both can feel proud of. Racing is just an added side bonus to t...

Re: 8" length limit - no typo
Maybe you can add something that makes Perry look like he's sticking out his tongue? You only need an inch to meet the limit. Also keep it about 3/4" wide so it properly breaks the light sensors at the finish line.

Re: 8" length limit - no typo
Yes, if building a new car (Perry II) use option "A". If using the existing Perry, go with option "C".

Re: 8" length limit - no typo
The trick is to move your COM further up the hill. I don't think that just moving the wheels back will change it that much (actually it might make your COM move more forward of the rear wheels, due to the balancing of the wheel weight). I think option "A" will give you better results; espe...

Re: 8" length limit - no typo
Based on that, I agree with FS here, it is absolutely an advantage. I once was in a race were they allowed a 9" car length. I built my car to the 9" specification. All my competitors built their cars to the 7" block specification. My car easily smoked them as my COM was much further u...
