Grand Prix shocker

We just had our club GP. DFR (my team of kids and adults) decided to help a missionary and his kids who were on furlough as they had no tools. We received his car bodies the night before, got them to weigh as close to 5.0 as possible, smoothed the wheel tread, put some Pledge on raw axles and assemb...

Re: Awana Wheel Re-molding

Great idea Stan but I think they are too soft. It would make a big mess!

Re: Canting front wheel on RR

The suggested 5" in 4' is in the ballpark for drift resulting from toe-in, but steering from camber (cant) is rather different. 2 to 3 degrees axle camber should leave you in good shape. 3 degrees is 3/32" lift on the opposite side of the car body. 2 degrees is 1/16" lift ... Great i...

Re: Are there larger diameter axles?

I checked Winderby's site and the H50 axles are Awana Axles as near as I can tell without handling one. It's not viable to machine an axle from stock, nickel plate it and sell them for $2.00 a set. He does say that they are smaller in dia than the BSA axle which is curious as the Awana axle is large...

Re: Are there larger diameter axles?

Awana axles work fantastic with BSA wheels. I didn't have to do this but if you grind the end to a point they look like modded BSA ones. I buy them in bulk from Awana for our GP. If you need a set let me know, perhaps we can barter somehow.

Re: Axle Diameter

FWIW
I've used awana axles with BSA wheels (for a cub scout buddy of mine) and the car was untouchable. Nearest car was 2 lengths behind. Awana axles are larger in diameter than BSA's. Aluminum track. Hope this adds some food to your thought plate!! 8)

Re: Pro-wheel shaver with soft Awana or PinePro wheels

Thanks for the Props Racer X! I'm KCBCommando on another board. Here I'm ASATXJ. IF you put them in the freezer it will help a LOT. (Working in a cold garage works too, especially here in MI) You also need to make sure that you dress the blade on the shaver often. It must be SHARP and you have to us...

This would be DerbyWorx (Racerx). He holds the patent on the device.
Sorry, I apologize! Doing two things at once again!

Re: Multi-wheel alignment jig idea

I made one similar and MaxV told me to cease and decist as far as selling them goes. As I read his patent document, any device that his shaped like the pro body tool is covered under his patent. I have one that I use for my cars and a few friends but that's it. Don't want big business chewing on my ...

Re: BSA Vs Awana Vs Royal Ambassadors

Amen Randy!! Now if we could get AWANA to dump the cool looking but lousy wheels we'd be in shape!! Or at least make them from a better plastic like BSA does. The wood in the AWANA kits has been horrible this year! I've had 25% or more that were twisted beyond use and or wider than the 1.75". W...

Re: BSA Vs Awana Vs Royal Ambassadors

Bubba- I'm an awana commander, pretty easy to find spare parts. I usually order a quantity of spare wheels and axles for emergencies. For fun I "made" some BSA axles out if awana ones by grinding a point on them so they looked like nails. Never used them. Doc- The trade off is that the awan...

Re: BSA Vs Awana Vs Royal Ambassadors

I built a BSA car using speed axles, nye oil and the best alignment I could for a friend. I tested it next to a Good Awana Car. The awana car beat it by a substantial margin. I was worried but delivered it. The BSA car went undefeated in it's pack race and everyone asked him what hhis secret was. In...

Re: Awana car help sought

I can give you some pointers on wheels and axles. Your rules are going to limit some of the options but PM me and I'll give you some pointers. I don't have time to type them all out here but I'm working on a booklet for our kids and I can give you a "preproduction copy"
