Re: Need some help for District race

That's what I would try first - shifting the lead forward until it doesn't wiggle.

Best video compressors for Race Replay

What does everyone use for video compression (CODEC) for Race Replay? My playing around shows that DV Video Encoder produces good quality and plays back without issues. The file sizes are 50-100 MB per heat. (Using a Sony video camera if that matters). And...what playback setup works best? 1 replay ...

Re: Outsmarting the mavericks at the check in

Graphite on a Krytox lubed car will slow it down.

Here's an old thread where our Krytox cars were slowed down just from the graphite on the track...let alone intentionally applying it to the wheel.

Re: Modifying an Awana wheel

The lathe is the way to go. We thinned the wheel using 400 grit sandpaper, lots of water spray and a drill press / madrel. Very time conuming and the plastic is so soft - you will ruin a few wheels in the process. The bores are not pretty after this either. If I had my own lathe...and if it were leg...

Re: Wing COM

It is a RR, rear axles canted.

Why the plates? Better dispersion of the weight?

Edited to add track info.
The track is 48 foot Freedom Aluminum.

Wing COM

Car = extended wheelbase wing. body (wood) weight = 1.2 ounce. Weights = tungsten round. We're having trouble getting the weight back far enough w/o the wiggles. currentl COM is at 1.25 inch in front of rear axles. Any suggestions on getting the COM back? - Thin the car further (reduce wood weight t...

Re: Cant vs RR Clarification Required

As mentioned - if you trust your drill press setup drill the rear axle holes with the cant. The cant will buy you some speed if done right. I don't recommend grooved axles when canting... Re: Aerodynamics of using 3/4" tungsten disk versus 1&a

Not in my opinion.

I did Reynolds Number calculations a few years ago.
These cars don't go fast enough to generate turbulent airflow.

But you might want to try and streamline the part sticking out (epoxy or wood putty to smooth the transition.

Re: Something didn't smell right. What do you think?

A "jump at the gate" sounds like lightened wheels may be present to me as well. We are allowed to run lightened wheels - and doing a frame by frame analysis of video shows the light wheels have a clear advantage at the start. Was there any serious wheel inspection at check in? One of my pe...
