Re: Pro Body Tool 3.0

Thank you, Murph. I never knew that. In all your racing did you ever wonder why the back wheels were usually recommended to be at a 2 1/2 degree camber? We were never allowed to do it but it had to originate somewhere. It has always seemed to me to be counter productive. At that much of an angle I w...

Re: Pro Body Tool 3.0

Murphken, I think I'm finally going to get my answer. "The rear axle alignment is everything" I agree. For the past 36 years, I race only with scouts, I can't use oil, wheels must be straight up and down. There's a little bit of an angle allowed on that straight up and down rule. I bend 3 ...

Re: Girl Scouts Championship Race

My wife and I were able to attend the Ford Girl Scout race in Michigan. Randy did a Super job. The race was held at a church which is very active in many things. I talked to the Activity Director of the church many days before the race and built her a wedge Derby car. Thinking she might get to race ...

Re: Pro Body Tool 3.0

Mr. Eagle, Thank You for those kind words. Our success is due to Derbytalk and our Districts fairly strict rules. I Love our rules. Each year I have been fortunate to get at least one scout who is absorbed with speed and didn't care what shape his car was. That's the scout I want. Don't get me wrong...

Re: Pro Body Tool 3.0

I have my bender set for 1 1/2 degrees and all 3 wheels get that. More then that you get disqualified or you need to change wheels and axles. That wasn't my scout but we watched it happen. I honestly have never spent much time aligning the rears. Once they roll forward and backward and stay at the a...

Re: Poor Quality Wheels from Latest BSA Lot

I agree, some wheels are very bad. Since Derbytalk is directed toward Scout Racing, what info can be offered to help the beginner get some decent wheels without spending much money. Our workshops would have the scout turn his wheels on the runout gauge and then use the worst one for the lifted wheel...

Re: Poor Quality Wheels from Latest BSA Lot

Hello Everyone. Please forgive my ignorance but I have some questions. What is the difference between a bad wheel and a good wheel? I know the vendors always have 3 or 4 numbers they recommend as being the best and they are probably the easiest to make better. I have 100 sets of wheels (that's a dif...

Re: Arduino Scale - Measures Weight and Center of Gravity

I think this is interesting and would be something to have for someone teaching how to build a car for speed. I would then have a car that had a CG of 3/4" in front of the rear axle slot. Here's my thought. The car shown cannot move weight around to get a more aggressive CG. The builder would l...

Re: CBC JAX AWANA Grand Prix Video

That was a WONDERFUL video. Very, very entertaining. I loved the music. It was great you were able to have a workshop. It looked like everyone had a Great time.

We were able to do a Pack race and District race but not a workshop. Hopefully in 2022 we'll have a workshop.

Again, NICE JOB !

They have a 4 lane aluminum Freedom track, Micro Wizard K 2 timer and the best software in the world. My understanding is everything is new.

Re: The Badder Ladder to make them Madder

OK, let's talk for a minute. You want to show folks what speed is. You are now deep into Physics. You want to build a 3/8" ladder car. Why? Do you think you can make a 3/8" ladder car go faster then a 1/4" solid car? You will need to cover all the openings with packing tape or with th...

Re: Big Dreams for a Big Rig - but smaller

Thank you. That's a Beautiful track, timer and software. Here's a short story you might find interesting. Prior to Covid 19 our District used a 29'10" Best track for the 1st race. The top 8 cars would then move to a 40' Freedom track. Sometimes the 1st place car on the Best track would also tak...

Re: Big Dreams for a Big Rig - but smaller

mclewis, I'm curious and have a few questions. Do you have a picture of the track? Do you race on an aluminum track called a "Best" track? Here is the distance between the start pin and the timer if the holes were punched by Best track. 35' track- 29'10" 42' track-36'10" What's t...
