Re: DFW behavior
Thanks Stan, ton of good info in there. If I'm understanding correctly having the DFW axle say a thousandth less than normal diameter may reduce the total distance of slide. Also to error on the side of having the tread grip rather than too slick may reduce the amount of side to side movement theref...

DFW behavior
On a RailRider w/ front positive cant does the DFW ever slide on the outer fluted/beaded area of the rim where it contacts track? Also wondering if this wheel manages to straighten out regarding toe and is oriented parallel to the rail transferring the toe angle to the wheel/ axle slop while still s...

Re: Questions for the Pro's & my comments & reques
In regards to RR being faster than a straight runner, the way I understand it is a RR will put out more consistent times. A straight runner may achieve a faster speed in a race or two but overall the times will have a greater spread than a RR. In certain types of racing where your times are averaged...

Re: How much steer does this car need?
Thanks! [removed] The "Block" helps achieve near perfect alignment if used in tandem with a drill press with minimal runout and a good flex free drill bit. It also allows you to cant your wheels. With a little creativity it will do a myriad of other tricks. Lasts a lifetime too. Best money...

Re: Please help, need expert advice
No matter how straight you get your car to run it will inevitably smack the rails. Since I didnt have a track at the time to dial in the right amount of steer I opted to err on the side of more steer instead of not enough. Having too little steer could cause the car to become "unglued" fro...

Re: Differences between Royal Ranger and BSA PWD cars?
I realize this post is from 5 years ago but better late than never. There are actually two styles of Royal Ranger wheels. They are injection molded so balancing is critical. Running them as vertical as possible helps, they run worse canted or cambered. The biggest battle of the Royal Ranger cars is ...

Re: Lighten Axles
I think clipping the axles to a shorter length would remove as much if not more mass. Reducing the diameter of the axle where it is secured in the body will weaken it and make it more vulnerable to getting bent. If getting more weight in the back is your goal maybe try a twin rail design with an ext...

Re: Polishes
I spend a lot of time on the ocean and maintaining boats. Of all the marine grade polishes I tried I have found that Star Brite is king. It is a two step process(2 different bottles). I conducted a test using star brite vs meguiars vs micro gloss. The star brite removes scratches much better and lea...

3cub, did you ever find the thread you were looking for? I wouldn't mind looking it over myself. I don't even bother trying to use the search function anymore as I have had absolutely no luck getting results. Thanks, Corvid

Re: How much steer does this car need?
Gravity racer, the tungsten disc you see on this car is a 3.8 ounce disc, .3 ounces heavier than max v's disc that you are envisioning. Although they are the same dimension.

Re: How much steer does this car need?
Went ahead and made it steer hard and it is a very fast car, only problem now is the lack of wood in front is to little to trip the sensor. Piece of tape under the nose took care of that problem. After this car I am sold on The Block- never before could I have gone so aggresive on COM and not ended ...

Re: How much steer does this car need?
Quadad, this is my first car with canted wheels. The front end is very light indeed, but the small piece of wood that was removed in front of the front axles weighed less than 3 grams. I have planned on heavy steer all along on this car, just curious if canted wheels, short wheelbase and great rear ...

Re: How much steer does this car need?
I am not sure I follow,MBB. "Canted wheels offer less wheel steering". I am new at rail riding but from what I have learned the goal is to get the rear wheels as straight as possible so that they have no steering effect on the car whatsoever. They are merely being pulled being the front of...

How much steer does this car need?
http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj41/frontosacam311/100_0920.jpg How much drift in 8' would you put on this car. For the sake of discussion, just assume that the rear alignment is spot on and the rear wheels are canted at 3 degrees. COM at .5, and the front dominant wheel is inset almost a 1/16&...
