Re: Rail Riding Question - indenting RR wheel

Hello all, New member. I’m attempting to build a RR car for the first time. I’ve read in a few places to ident the block at the RR axle groove 1/16”. Our rules specify a minimum distance between the wheels of 1 3/4” which effectively prohibits this technique. If I can’t indent the RR axle groove, i...

Re: 2018 Spitfire Mark III

So I finished up the wheel hubs with my typical method, chucked them up in the drill on my mandrel and did a slow spin against the tip of a silver sharpie. I want to airbrush them to have white walls like the hot rod and little blue cruiser I've done before. Not sure yet if I'm going to attempt the ...

Re: 2018 Spitfire Mark III

I've made a bit of progress, spent 9 hours in the car this weekend (late family christmas get together) so no time to work on derby cars. But I have all the final primer and prep work done for now. In the past I've had a friend of mine who is a very talented painter and airbrush artist do my final p...

kcarchitect, In the photo just over your weights : Is that some of the paper wood veneer you were telling me about. Look's handy.. I'm going to have to look into getting some to try out! https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4682/39488674782_e1703f0122_b.jpg Is it the adhesive backed type veneer? Whoda, i...

Re: 2018 Spitfire Mark III

Started getting some primer and filling some of the imperfections from my carving and shaping on the body. Should be ready to start the airbrush work after it cures out and I can wet sand it one more time! https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4643/24651086447_c71e49cf2e_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.co...

Re: Graphite vs. Silicone

Silicone is typically a spray, WD-40 for example is a silicone lubricant. I would think that is contradictory to the "no lubricating oil".

Re: Plans for a Hot Rod Car

Very cool, I admire the dedication on the frame/chassis. I've got a '28 ford tudor sedan and considered doing more on the frame, but I just couldn't get it low enough where you would still be able to see any of it. The Canuk Truck is wicked!

Re: 2018 Spitfire Mark III

Got a fair amount of work done on the car over the weekend. Did an initial glue up with scraps and cutoffs from two car kits to get the block large enough. After adjusting for the larger rear wheel I could see that I wasn't going to be able to keep both rear axle pegs and decided I really only need ...

Re: 2018 Spitfire Mark III

The opening slot size for the start gate pins is .440" (7/16") on my Best track. If the inside hubs on 2 wheels were removed a bit the 2 wheels could be glued together and it would look like a fat stock wheel with the spokes and lettering showing. The car will probably drift one way or th...
