Re: Help with Stop Section
Re ballistic stoppers, I never thought of using kid power! Good idea. I'm sure you can get eager volunteers. If it is a pack race, there is probably a sister sibling that would love to be apart of the action. Have any of you had any trouble with 3oz cars bouncing back up the ramp? There are always ...

Re: Help with Stop Section
Thanks Dr Pine, where would I find rubber skid tape. I looked for stufff last weekend at a hardware store but didn't see anything that I thought would work. Is that something you might find in a drugstore that sells safety stuff? Will it stop most cars in 30"? It'd be cool to make self resetti...

Re: Help with Stop Section
You can also check out the "Ballistic Stoppers" from Micahel Lastufka's site, see http://derbytalk.com/viewtopic.php?p=13 ... listic#132. We built them and they have worked out well on our very short stop section.

Re: Computer Problems at Derby? (Application of Murphy's La
This year Murphy struck us a couple of times with computer issues that did cause us some delays, but we persevered. As we were getting the last of the racers registered, my yougest son was trying to get something out of my wife's purse and accidentally stepped on the power strip's switch, killing th...

Re: Bandwidth Question
FYI - The lights are still on here the end of February since a couple of people stepped forward and offered to pay the excess bandwidth charge (double the normal monthly hosting charge) It is the last day of the month and we are at 105% of the bandwidth limit. Since the board is catching o...

I'd recommend searching the board since that topic has been discussed in probably a couple of different threads.KCDerbyMan wrote:What's the board's thought on grooved or non-grooved when using Nyoil??

I don't know how I missed that article (a very good one I might add). I must have glaced past it to the review below it of some new site called Derby TalkMaxV wrote:You can read a more thorough description at:

Re: Light or heavy wood
My question pertains to the wood. I realize that much of the weight will be removed for the final body, but what's your opinions of the use of a heavier or lighter block to start with. My inexperienced brain says that to concentrate the most weight in the back, use the lightest wood. But would a he...

Re: Evaluating PWD body designs
For what it is worth, our car this year was a modified rail design where the rails actually cover the wheels. As with the rail the center is hollowed out and the axle areas supporting the wheels are symmetrical wing shaped. An aerodynamic pod is used to hold the weight since the axle sections are o...

Re: Evaluating PWD body designs
Actually there have been tests conducted by Cory Young and Michael Lastufka that do show that aerodynamics have a significant effect and should not be overlooked.Pinehead Rick wrote:I was always under the impression that wind resistance isn't much or any factor at these speeds for pinewood derby

Re: Revisions to forum rules
Re your recent concerns of exceeding bandwidth limits. Can we not limit the number and size of pictures posted to this site? Pictures are great but suck up a lot of bandwidth. If we could post the URLs to our pictures that would save a lot of bandwidth wouldn't it? Terry The only pictures that hit ...

Re: Track and Dimension check
Does anyone have plans on how to build a track clearance and dimension checker that can be used for inspections at the PWD? You can try at the Pinewood Derby Supersite at http://www.simplyweb.net/bosworth/pinewood.htm . The've got a graphic, but no measurements. You probably already know the key me...

Nice pic, but it needs to be sized down to 640X480 or less for easier viewing.
