Re: Q-tip brands for hub polish
...it pulled off a thin line of plastic, like a long thin curl from somewhere in the bore. When I looked at the bore it seems that I put some very visible rings inside the bore and... I had this same thing happen on one wheel recently. I didn't have extra so i fixed it up as best i could. I think i...

Re: Does Sequence of Polishing Operations Matter?
I see the differences the same way you do. Although the difference is small its still visible via light reflection at edges of light source and in this case in the center of the light sources. Is sample H mis labled or did you actually skip 4 micron on your way to 2? Text and photo are not consisten...

Re: Q-tip brands for hub polish
I've used wal mart brand as well... called Equate. work real nice in most wheels i've done. Not so good for my .096 bores on awana wheels that I just done. was short on time to sand them (the qtips) down, so I just used a pin guage and spiraled a small sliver of micro mesh on it through the bore the...

Re: Alignment, Axle wholes. Drilling / Cant. (Pictures).
Stan, Is this the article? Canted Axles Revisited It shows at best maybe .0015 (1.5 milliseconds) difference going from 2-5 deg. and is careful to disclose "The results indicate that there is a very small improvement in performance by up-canting the rear axles. However, note that this is not an...

Re: Alignment, Axle wholes. Drilling / Cant. (Pictures).
depends on what cant you want and which side of the block you use it on. See Stan's calculator page. Is there a recommended amount of cant based on your experience? I keep hearing about 2.5 degrees on the rears but is that what you would recommend? We want to try to build a new car using these tech...

Re: Alignment, Axle wholes. Drilling / Cant. (Pictures).
...I now have near perfect rear holes. One is shifted a few thousandths forward then the other. .... I should note that from what I've seen of drilling tools available (sorry haven't used them yet), none help perfect this and they rely on a good eye and how square you marked your line from one side...

Re: Alignment, Axle wholes. Drilling / Cant. (Pictures).
I just got done chasing my tail last night for a few hours trying to drill holes. I have to echo LightingBoy and Topspin. THE WOOD BLOCK MUST HAVE PARALLEL SIDES AND BOTTOM MUST BE SQUARE TO SIDES. AND BOTTOM AND SIDES MUST BE FLAT or at least not have a belly in them that sticks out of the wood all...

Re: Weight = ?? inches at finsh line
Understood Darin. But was close enough to get an idea if I was in the ball park. So which way does the non linear relationship work? If I think I understand... it may be 1/8" between 141.74g and 140.74g but might be something larger (maybe 1/4") between 85g and 84g? And this is due to air ...

Re: Weight = ?? inches at finsh line
Hmmmm... if true I might be looking at a gain, when I add 2 full ounces... will be interesting to see the effect. I agree on the length of of track among MANY other factors. such as COM placement, car shape, wheel inertia, lube types and preps... an on and on.... but a ball park number is what I was...

Weight = ?? inches at finsh line
More of a curiosity question... Haven't been able to locate a similar question/answer via search. In ball park terms...How much distance would say... adding 1 oz make up in distance at finsh line? Half a car length? more? less? I know it all depends on track design, height of start pin, slope angle,...
