Re: Oil
I agree that Oil is no longer a messy or an negative impact to plastics. And would encourage Packs to make the switch. The "official" rule-out-of-the-box is that "only dry lubricant is permitted." I wonder if this is an obstacle to the acceptance of liquid lubes, such that remov...

Re: Is this a good deal? Test Track and timer $75
I have someone who has the besttrack #120 test track and a Newbold DT1000 single lane timer. All of this for $75. DN, when we were shopping for a single-lane timer a few years ago, I recall that all were priced more than $100 new. (We ended up going with Timestoppers just because we liked its elect...

Re: What is your best form of weight?
I would want the weight as low as possible so I assume thats why people are putting it down in their car body. I don't know if it helps, but the topic of whether to put weight lower or higher was discussed in this thread not too long ago. Certainly putting weight in the body minimizes the body's cr...

Re: 2010 Test cars
Its stiff, its all in the wood you use !!! the wood was dense also. Sporty, are you referring to the grain pattern and density of the pinewood, or do you mean you are using a wood other than pine? (If so, what kind of wood?) But I went to far back for the weight. So that we might save ourselves fro...

Re: Fastest axles?
Does anyone know the prep process for nickel plated axles? DN, I would refer to various vendor sites that sell nickle-plated axles for their recommendations. Depending on the vendor, this kind of prep information is sometimes found within the descriptions of vendor polishing kits, rather than their...

Check out Doc Jobe's Lecture 3 experiments with nickel plated axles if you haven't already.DerbyNut wrote:For graphite, which purchased axles are the fastest? And would nickel plated ones be faster than the speed axles for sale online?

Re: Track Timer A True blessing ! Alignment break through
If others know you have your own track, some take that as cheating since you have a clear advantage over them. Others might not think of it as cheating so much as they think you are obsessed or crazy. Such characterizations tend to be a reasonable excuse to keep it quiet. ;) It is certainly a...

Re: Tuning alignment without lube?
My only thought about trying to mimic it in with a drill press is that you won't get the proper contact as you would running the car. Yeah, it would not be accurate necessarily, rather it would just be a fast and easy simulation experiment to get a visible (and therefore subjective) sense of damage...

Re: Tuning alignment without lube?
This is an interesting discussion. I am especially fascinated by the term bore damaged to describe a raced axle / wheel combination; yet we use abrasives in the wheel bore and around the axle and call that polishing . :) I am inclined to think of running without lubrication as "polishing" ...

Re: Wheel replacement guide questions
Our rules state that you must have all four wheels mounted on the car but we are allowed to run with a raised wheel. And we do not have to use the slots either. So one question I have is would it be fair and not against the rules to place one of the front wheels on the other side and use a peg up t...

Tuning alignment without lube?
When "tuning" the alignment of a car (using slow roll tests or timing on a test track), is it preferable to do this without lubrication in order eliminate that variable? Or, would one find a different optimal alignment had the car been lubricated? Similarly, what are the risks, if any, to ...

Re: Tips for building cars using Krytox 100
I lack the time to do an in-depth parametric analysis, so Stan’s results were helpful toward me finding a crossover distance using the software available to me. Doc Jobe provides an interesting graph of “wheel spin time” (via the finger-spin test) versus “coefficient of friction” MU as a preliminary...
