2015 car 1939 Chevy Sedan Delivery

For our car club Pinewood Derby there was an award for the best sedan delivery. So I decided to make a sedan delivery for the race. The car club logo has a sedan delivery on its logo, this sedan delivery is a 1939 Chevy sedan delivery: https://drive.google.com/uc?id=1aXMRw9FObAkDg6tOrThWgcGbIA6BpZuD...

Re: Vintage Big Rig Build.

The truck is looking great, where did you source the decals? Did you make them?

2015 car Eleanor, from the 2000 movie “Gone in 60 Seconds"

A friend of mine has a real Eleanor, a modified 1967 Shelby GT-500. If I remember the story right, his car was #17 of 18 cars made for the movie. His was one that they did not complete because it was not needed to finish the movie. When he purchased the car it was a painted body, it did not have a m...

2015 car 1970 Rebel Machine

My 16 year old son, who has been a Boy Scout for 5 years now, still likes to make Pinewood Derby cars every year. This year he decided to build the American Motors, 70 Rebel Machine. It seems odd a boy that was not alive when American Motors Corporation was still in business, would decide to build a...

Car Club PWD, idea & trophies

Early last year I started planning a pinewood derby for a car club I am a member of, I brought up the possibility of holding a pinewood derby, at a meeting in February of 2105. There seemed to be some interest in this event. The first thing I did was to establish classes for racing along with rules ...

Re: Envelope inspection

I'm not sure if you are trying to argue a point or not. The first ever PWD race was May 15, 1953 by Pack 280C in Manhattan Beach, CA. Don Murphy, the Cubmaster for that pack, is credited with being the founder of PWD. I was not trying to irritate, I was just giving the basis for my comments, based ...

Re: Incra, how did I live without you?

The first time I saw the Incra Rule was at a woodworking show (probably 15+ years back). There was a good looking woman giving guys a chance to measure out, using a tape measure and a well-used carpenters pencil, a very accurate measurement. She would use the Incra Rule and show them how off their m...

Re: Envelope inspection

Here a Boys’ Life article from November of 1973 (about the time I was racing as a Wolf) that also says 7 3/8”. Maybe the original race was 7 3/4", but all of the Boys’ Life references I have found are 7 3/8”. http://home.comcast.net/~adholzer/PWD/Boys_Life-November_1973.jpg This was originally ...

Re: Envelope inspection

What is interesting is that the first ever PWD had a 7-3/4" limit. So, why did it change to 7"'? Was it due to track dimensions? BSA wanted to get more kits out of the wood stock? Some other reason? The original, October 1954, Boys Life specs say “overall length shall not exceed 7 3/8” ht...

Re: Envelope inspection

These inspection gauges are manufactured by Randy (GPRaceman), the creator of DerbyTalk, you can see them here:

Maybe he can speak to the changes.

Re: Classic car woe

You could raise the rear of the rocker panel and the rear bumper and this would get the skirt up higher (1st picture with red line). Or you could notch for the axle head and finish with a piece of chrome tape applied along the rocker panel and up the skirt to the rear bumper (second picture with the...

Re: Semi Racing

Back in 2010 when I was looking for axles to use when making Big Rigs, I found the PWD axles were called escutcheon pins. I found these were mostly used in picture hanging. I bought many picture hangers to find ones I could use for axles for the trucks. In this search I found Menards carried a kit o...

Re: Classic car woe

When we draw the plan originally, we draw in the wheels, so we can check the clearance to the fenders and the proposed fender skirts. Here is a picture of the plan for the Nomad I built last year: https://drive.google.com/uc?id=1Jy6BiXtWO1ucam_xcJNJAPfDb6MScYIb The car also has canted rear wheels so...
