Re: My Bears 2008 car

That is one great looking car. I fully believe your son made it doing the lion's share, if not all of the work. Just out of curiosity, is your track a manual start. I'm wondering if the starter dropped the gate a little slow or had a flinch in there after he moved it enough to start the timer. Glitc...

Re: Fund Raiser

Hey, something is only worth what the maket will support. If they can put together an event at $75 per entry and have 100+ cars enter, I would say they have a market that will support it. Around here I can't see it working, but Pinecar may live in a much more afluent area. I think CM924 has the righ...

Re: 5th at District, we may have our first Council race ever

Now you can go after the cheaters with the 3.3g wheels. Usually, after a light sanding 3.5g is norm. If the rules only allow you to remove "mold marks" or "manufacturing irregularities", 3.3g is well down the cheater trail - it's only a matter of degree. If 3.3g is the right num...

Re: Fun Raiser

I like the token idea. That could be a lot of fun. Those that don't care who they race, just circle through the line. If siblings or friends want to race, they can make it happen.

Re: 5th at District, we may have our first Council race ever

You need to be carefull using a weight as high as 3.3g as a disqualifier if your rules are as open as light sanding (and our rules are that open). I have only weighed a little more that 50 stock wheels but I did find a 3.42g stock #4 mold wheel. If a kid were to legitamately sand this to remove the ...

Re: Fun Raiser

First, pardon my inability to understand your question. Are you planning a fund raising PWD race, open to the public, with a fee to race? If so, I would probably run it by different classes (one class for scouts using your local pack rules, one class for rangers with their local rules, an open or ou...

Re: 5th at District, we may have our first Council race ever

Great job Teeman,

Definitely a win for the whole group. Even if someone slipped through, watching the embarrassment of the cheater should be a deterrent for next year.

Love this story sooooo much!

Rocket twisting around the line

My son is largely finished with his space derby ship and has just started painting it. It is very light so I thought I would give it a test in the basement on just two rubber bands (make sure it wasn't going to tear apart.) I put up some fishing line that I had in the tackle box (new stuff) and hook...

Re: Derby's Done and Isn't there always one?

I question the assumption that a scout is "hurt" or done a disservice in any way by moving his car to the open class. The boys still gets to run his car, and I see several valuable lessons for the kid. First, I think the scout, maybe all the scouts present, learn the importance of knowing ...

Re: Derby's Done and Isn't there always one?

I totally understand your point of view Miller, I really do. I would also hate to tell a kid that he couldn't run in the pack race but I think they provided a nice alternative with the open class. At the end of the day, the rules are in place because they are meant to be enforced, IMHO. Once you sta...

Re: Re-using 1g Wheels

Thanks for your input. I certainly wasn't meaning to imply that I would be using 1g wheels on a cubscout car. That would be a marjor violation here. I was just considering a pair for playing around during track setup the night before the racing. Adult, just for kick, playing around with the track an...

Re: Re-using 1g Wheels

Gottcha. So maybe compressed air to blow out old graphite, a quick turn of the axles with mothers add graphite and back onto the new car (or back on the old car) to breakin?

Re: Re-using 1g Wheels

Just out of curiuosity though, what would you do to refresh the wheels. Even supposing it was for a return run on an old car. Our pack doesn't allow them (1oz wheels) during racing but they allow the adults to bring whatever they want the night before and run grudge style (as long as it won't run du...

Re: Son took 1st in pack, thanks to this forum!

Congrats! Sounds like you guys built quite a little speedster. How close were the other cars? Just a little tip, check your alignment again. Without knowing the stop section or how the car was handled, it's just a guess, but if the alignement was moved, just a little, it could account for the drop i...

Re: Bad Finish or Not

Ohio, I still like the fastest average time for trophies and plaques for the overall winners, but I agree winning 4 races should count for something. Maybe this would help in your pack. In our pack, the run like yours. There are 6 lanes and each car runs once in each lane. They differ in that, they ...
