Re: Weird Pack Results

It is just not real racing and leads to confusion. With the scale we are talking about in PWD and the milliesecond differences in lanes...timed racing across all lanes is the only real racing that can be had IMO. I understand what you mean, but it is just not that simple. Unless you create some ela...

Re: Thanks! We placed 4th!

Arm chair QB, but I think this sounds alot like the old stick-in-the-mud PWD races becasue-that-is-how-well-always-done-it kinda event. If they had times, why score on wins (although if it was displayed as 69, instead of 2.690 - then maybe they don't have a good timer)? Why were rules not clear on l...

Re: Using a maple block

Take your thumbnail and make an indentation in an inconspicuous place in the wood. True but if these are legit pine cars, then they obviouslly put a ton of work into them, which would also mean a serious clearcoat or arcylic finish, which could act as a hardner. menetree - snap us a picture this ye...

Re: Running two timers and not consistent

I would first guess that exactly 0.100 has to be a software issue in the microcontroller. Some really flaky counter rollover that is too unusual to see in normal testing. But then every timer they stamped out would have the same bug. Now it may be possible there other customers just don't notice? Bu...

Re: Derby Trivia for Race MC?

20mph? I don't recall that as accurate. Isn't the typical race closer to 10mph (peak speed)? For DayCamp we used to do alot of cutting of boards to length. One engineer in the group would actually calculate the amount of 'dust' created by counting cuts and the kerf of the blade. I wonder what the av...

Re: Fastest car does not win?

How did they measure RT? Was there a photo sensor near the top the car rolled over, or something? How many lanes, has to be single, yea? You say button, so I am guessing they measure RT from some external timer that starts with a light tree and stops on the kids pressing of the start button. In turn...

Re: Why this Rule - Wheels directly across from each other

A simple answer to all these 'Why This Rule' questions...because once upon a time somebody beat somebody with that design element, so it was quickly outlawed as the suspected secret out-of-the-box-thinking that made for the 'unfair' win. If this forum engine had the ability to spit, I would use it r...

Re: "Fun" race starting method?

We do wire ours direct to the starting gate, so each racer when they are racing in lane 1 - gets to press the actual start button. We have wired in series a second button that the computer operator has to hold down to activate the circuit to avoid any premature launches. It is just a large arcade st...

Re: Nervous...are we going too far?

Should I feel more confident? Does he feel confident is the bigger goal. Don't forget to put more "we" and less "I" into the mix. Posts can be telling sometimes and reading these from top to bottom went from us to many 'I''s in a row. We all (me very much included) all need a tu...

Re: devastating news

Just playing child shrink online, but my first impression would be something subtle. As said above, the pressure of still doing well has built up. Or he could have received some teasing and perhaps downright accusations about being the 'winner' all the time, maybe even the C word. And I have no idea...

Re: Best bang for the buck tools

Even if you have to use the slots, many people drill holes into the slots to guide the axle in. This may be acceptable for your rules and would be a huge speed advantage over using existing slots that may or may not be straight. Having the luxury of not using slots, I never considered this. But it ...

Re: Best bang for the buck tools

Yes, first get on the committe and have that 'use the slot' rule taken out. Then you can have some fun with tools. Mainly the proBody and #44 bit. As it is, and the post-2009 wheels...my vote would be only the axle press and something to rank the wheels, like the HF dial is fine. Still need ...

Re: Need help identifying timer/hardware; source for parts

I agree, to not dismantle anything that is working. Even if you get to the sensor items, these are often difficult to ID the exact spec. And it might take experiementing with a variety of parts to find something compatible. All the while, risking plugging in a component that harms the controller in ...

Gee Darin, could you have held off on posting for a little longer. Who can top that now? Oh a car here and a car there, special project cars maybe...but as a collection...whew.
