Re: Rules on Material
I like that explanation, all non pineblock stuff could be removed and it should still be a rolling car-like thing...
Still can be vague, but it helps gets the spirit across better to those that will honor it anyway.

Rules on Material
I hadn't thought about it much, cause I was thinking single raw block concepts for cars this, our first, year. But we had some entries with foam additions, mostly decorative, but some for fins, fenders, etc. Alot of balsa items. Our rules is a basic 'use the kit' approach. But we also say decoration...

Re: Our 07 and 08 cars..opps a little late!
Ah, so the rails were cut like normal all the way back the solid yellow area. Then the separate ramp-shaped piece (red with three yellow spikes) is glued in. Neat. I have been thinking too machine-like, trying to mill "away" everything from a raw block that doesn't look like a car. I need ...

Re: Hurried Results = No Results
To slant the thru hole, you will need a smaller size, let's say 3/4" or smaller. This will absolutely work, but recognize that the width of the block is 1.75, so you will end up with a sharper 'scoop' looking in the front and thicker side rails. In other words that shallow 'dip' in the front wi...

Re: Hurried Results = No Results
Yes, my cylinder weights are drilled in from the side. You can see their faces just ahead of the rear wheels. You need about 7/16" thick wood in the back to put three cylinders across in frmo the back. The curve car only has about 1/8" in that center section from the curved thru hole. I ma...

How did yall perform that clean beveled cutout in your Son's 07 car?
The rails themselves angle from back to front and then the 'scoop' is beveled from top to bottom.

Re: Hurried Results = No Results
PWD_Addict, I thought I had some pics from the rear, but when I went to post last night they were not there. I'll look again. but which car are you interested in? The curved one or the wedge? For the wedge: Drill axle holes as normal. Drill a single rear center 3/8" hole for weights, about 3.5&...

First Year Fleet
Here is my son's first year Tiger car. He did all the work himself, minus the one bandsaw cut. I had to prompt him closely for the airbrushing, but I was surprised at how steady he held out. It took 2nd in the Tiger rank! http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2038/2230088994_e0159445ed.jpg http://farm3.sta...

Hurried Results = No Results
We had built my son's car with plenty of time to spare, and was just waiting thru damp humid weather to finish up the paint job. I had also completed one 'concept' car I made for the adult category, but in the last week got intrigued into building a speed car. Two days out I cut out a sleek wedge an...

Re: Year two with GPRM
We too use the last-chance two-human check. The gate man just picks up the cars as they were handed to him by the impound crew (they work from a paper list). The gate man concentrates first on correct placement and alignment. He then reads the numbers to a person looking at the live computer screen ...

Re: Race Reply and GPRM Challenge
I am impressed to see GPRM with built-in version checking, and I very much agree to staying up with upgrades. But do so with caution as you approach race time. We had one this weekend where we simply plugged in a plain-jane USB mouse into the Pack's laptop. One where the timing is still being done t...

Re: Making the car heavier AFTER weigh-in
Yea, it is over the top of the spirit of the weight limit in my mind. But my point of replying - is that imaginative thinking IS something I want to try and pass on to my son. So coming up with the ideas is excellent , just as then taking that idea and examining for feasibility, effectiveness, and f...

Re: I worsened runout, should I replace wheels?
Regarding the drillpress pics above, what is the red attachment above the chuck? Looks like it has centrifigul wings to it...something to minimize vibration and thus runout?
