Re: Slow Race?
Would a clear plexiglass panel running the first 6+ inches of the car's center accomplish the same thing? Just gotta keep it clean and crisp at the front. I know that many acrylics and plastics do not pass UV light (based on some Halloween displays I tried). But as long as IR passes thru and doesn'...

Re: New Pack Build Rules.
If only Packs could work with kids, instead of adults...another knee jerk reaction to something somebody said to somebody who then told somebody else about their feelings getting hurt. Get on your PWD committee and understand what is behind this. To me, building the car 'is' the event. The fact ther...

Agree, and we did check it there. Ours is a wood track with 'natural' curve, nothing too abrupt.gpraceman wrote:curved section.

Have not built one myself...Sporty will likely chime in here soon. A few things come to mind though, you may have already considered. Build it sturdy, cubmobiles plus drivers, can add up to some weight. Walking, climbing into cars will make for some 'shimmy' side to side bracing is needed. Build the...

Re: Slow Race?
Don't allow any 'track testing'. And race them once each lane, just like a normal race - and require crossing the finish line 'each' time, eliminating a lucky run. Also makes the build harder, as not allowed to 'reset' anything about the car that makes it slow. It has to be slow and stay slow for 4 ...

Re: It's Time for a Go/No-Go Box...
We built a new box this year - and didn't really look close at the old one. Went with newer design. Anyway, made the straddle check strip the full 3/8" tall, as is the common ground clearance spec. We had ALOT of cars with the usual PineCar style weight grates attached to bottoms, that would no...

Re: Buying a drill press
I have been thinking about getting a different type of drive belt. It looks like the old BSA belts I use to make for my pants when I was a kid, or should I say about 50 years ago. It is suppose to make it run quieter with less vibration making for more accuarate holes. I saw it at Woodcraft but do ...

Re: Den leader gift (after 5 years)
Take a PWD car, and slice in half from front to back (leaving a left and right). Mount 1/2 to a plaque with their name, years served, kids signed, or whatever else comes to mind. This makes for a very 'dimensional' looking plaque. You can make the slice on a slight subtle angle, so the car appears t...

If you are OK with cubs on power tools, one of the handiest I have is the Ridgid Oscilating Sander. http://www.ridgid.com/Tools/Oscillating-Edge-Belt--Spindle-Sander/EN/index.htm" target="_blank It is easy to use and good for straight sections and of course curves. Get a coarse grit set fo...

Re: Are you ridiculed on the track? Looked at, and suspected
We have two style triggers, the later one connecting 'around' the base of the where the nozzle comes out of the can, instead of lipped 'in' that ring. These work better on some of the newer stle 'finger buttons', but not all. The ones with real angled finger buttons are more comfortable for your fin...

Re: I have a need for speed but can't get there.......help!
when using sawhorses, or eventually at an event with free standing stands - be prepared for them to either tip over or scoot. Once you tension the lines, the tops will have a tendency to tip toward seach other of course, if you counter weight that, on a smooth gym or cafeteria floor - they can still...

How many turns you putting on? With three bands, you can't go super high, but I would start testing at around 120 ish. Does the prop seem to 'spin out' only in the first 5-10 feet? If so, could indicate something amiss about hanger or line. It is getting stuck or binding the hanger to the line (the ...

Using basic sheets, usually also gives the advantage of being able to also view the image from the back side. Not as bright, and in reverse...but handy if you have either audience or crew placed on the other side. Consider on the RR computer, to also have some photos, or powerpoint, or other 'filler...

Re: multiple lane "shutoff" for GPRM
Randy may correct me, but I have defined Dynamic Scheduling in my mind - as an 'active' or learning schedule. Where the schedule lineup for heat n is based on results from heats 1 thru n-1. So that faster cars are detected and scheduled differently that slower cars. The word Dynamic is more about th...
