Ha! I can relate to this! Since I had tubed the axles and wheels and had graphite-moly all over my fingers, the candy apple red car was now two shades: Red and Black! My wife thought it looked cool. My son thought it was ugly. So, I'll try the vegitable oil. After all, it IS my son's car. Right?

Oh, I'm not going to try it this year, the car is complete. The axles have been polished down to using 2000 grit. We've sanded the treads, coned the hubs, sanded the block near the axles, and applied Hob-e-lub to that area. The wheel bores have been polished. Weight is just under 5 oz (to be adjuste...

Wheel modification?
Has anyone tried to lighten the wheels by drilling holes between the hub and the tread? I don't know if it's legal in Cub Scout races or not. We're only supposed to sand off the divot on the tread. But, the area on the side, where the 'spokes' are, I was wondering if it would be possible to drill ho...
