Ok, this is a little wierd
I finally back at the house and have rebooted my comp after coming back from my first Derby as Scorer/Track Controller/Guy behind the green curtain. Unfortunately, for the sake of this thread, I do not have any back up manual scoring to compare what I am seeing in the software. I have a round of rac...

Re: Controversy
...here is the page that I had to stop reading because it was making my head hurt: http://members.aol.com/standcmr/math.html I missed this item earlier. My apologies, Nicholas. I'd better go add a disclaimer on that page that folks may need a "pressure relief valve" in their noggins to co...

Re: Controversy
O.K. got it. Reaction time is factored in, must have missed that in first post. How is this relevant to PWD? It is relevant because it seems there are two camps here and one of these camps believes that the "fastest" car MUST be determined and MUST be declared the winner, at the expense o...

Re: Controversy
In a drag race, you are the winner if you cross the finish line first, even if you do NOT have the fastest time. (this is very possible.. if you move off the line slower, but gain ground to a close finish, you can very well have the lower TIME but still lose the race... victory with times, not the ...

Re: Controversy
So let's assume for argument's sake, that the inaccuracies/inconsistencies of human judges and timing equipment is about equal. We are then left with the most important factor of points racing inequity. How do you race in the fast, slow and average lanes, against every single car in the field? Othe...

Re: USB to Serial Problem
There can be a few different things you have to do to get the two pieces to talk to each other. I cannoy even remember what was wrong with my setup, but Randy helped me out step by step until I got it right... I use the USB adapter that came with my K3 timer.

Re: Making the car heavier AFTER weigh-in
imaginative thinking IS something I want to try and pass on to my son. So coming up with the ideas is excellent , just as then taking that idea and examining for feasibility, effectiveness, and fairness. Scouts should learn that sometimes NO is a good final answer and the thought-process that went ...

Re: Is using the track/timer to adjust cars before races leg
the test run should have been a pass/fail AFTER official wieghin Why? Why not do it before check-in and give the builder team (child/adult) a chance to lube and tune as necessary? In that process, the cars weight may be changed (if that is part of the reason that it does not finish), so doing it af...

Re: Making the car heavier AFTER weigh-in
My opinion is that weighin is designed to provide a maximum weight for all cars. If you exceed that weight, your car is no longer in compliance and cannot be raced. Rather than trying to gain an advantage that BREAKS the rules, perhaps you should put your efforts into things that are WITHIN the rule...

Re: Leveling the field or just plain ridiculous response?
This is a brilliant Idea! Have the pack purchase sets of pre-prepped wheels from any one of the vendors out there... it is VERY likely that the wheels will be very consistent throughout the group, which would result in each racer being at the same level of advantage over letting each dad try to pre...

Re: Is using the track/timer to adjust cars before races leg
The concept of running the cars down the track to make sure they dont fall apart makes good sense, but I think that there was a single element missing fromt he procedure that led to the situation described - the test run should have been a pass/fail AFTER official wieghin, and ONLY those cars that h...

Re: Leveling the field or just plain ridiculous response?
If this guy realy wanted to level the field, and make it fair to all, than have just one person prep all wheels and axles and then have the blind draw and have them installed on site. If the dad realy did not help and the cub did do the work than this would not be a problem. If the cub had no idea h...

Re: Wheel Prep When You're Not Allowed to Prep
I have to ask - has anyone who actually came up with this idea actually seen a race with unbalanced wheels? It's going to look like Jed Clampetts Jalopie x 6 goin down the track - remember that balanced wheels aren't just for speed - they also lessen the impact of imperfections in the track. I would...

Re: Controversy
The method by which the race schedule is derrived is Perfect-N based through GPRM software. With deference to Mr. Pope, is there a way in which to impart the particulars of Perfect-N scheduling to parents to combat the potential for their impression that it is some magic "blackbox" "g...
