Re: Bore prep
Nice pics PD. I tried to get some last night - but didn't have much luck. It's interesting - I noted a difference in the appearance of the shine 3/4 of the way down the bore - and your pics seem to show a similar difference in the shine at the same point. What mold numbers did you use, I used 15's?...

Worth every penny, eh, well it was free, uh, you know. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! I hope you going into production next year and sell them! Definitely the easiest way to get a great bore.sporty wrote:I hope you like the sporty's bore prep rod process.

Re: Bore prep
Bore comparison pics. My Canon S5 has a Super Macro mode that will allow focusing on an object ON the camera lens!! Unfortunately it wanted to focus on the wheel spokes and not the bore. Even if not in focus you can see the Sporty polished bore is smoother. The Doc Jobe polished bore still has very ...

Re: Bore prep
I just finished polishing 2 sets of wheels with Sporty's rods. It doesn't get any easier than this!! And the finish is smooth as glass! Next I'm going to prep a set with Doc Jobe's polish and procedure, as I've done for the past 3 years. I don't think the finish will be nearly as good. I'll try to t...

I have the .055 rods. He gave me a spare but I'd rather not screw one up.

Re: Bore prep
I have some of Sporty's polishing rods and am planning on using them tonight. I'll be holding the rod in the drill press chuck and moving the wheel up and down. My drill press will turn at 250 RPM, hopefully reducing the chance of snapping a rod. If I had thought about it earlier I could have had a ...

Re: Drilling axle holes with camber and toe.
With proper tools - how accurately can you drill a #44 hole into a pine block? Consistently less than 1/2 degree of error max? Consistently 1/4 degree of error max? Consistently 1/10 degree of error max? You need to use a carbide drill, which is stiffer. I haven't tried drill holes on an angle just...

What were the times? I'm curious as to what the time penalty is.quadad wrote:Same result on wood track using the same car in the same lane, ran three times each way.

Re: Offset flat on front?
If the car is rail riding it should be running off center to the left, so offsetting the nose to the right makes some sense. The offset should probably be only about 1/8", I exaggerated a bit. A notch in the front should be deeper at the top of the nose and about 1/32 deep at the bottom. Since ...

Re: Not stopping!
BestTrack does sell the foam material or it can be ordered from other suppliers. I replace my on a regular basis . . . . looking for something that will really really work. We have even gone to using a double length stop section. http://www.mcmaster.com/#93625k48/=60ark2 I got the info from Pianted...

Re: Offset flat on front?
It was just a thought, since staging is a variable that usually isn't controlled at a Scout race. I'm thinking starting with the DFW on the rail might be less than the friction loss of a harder hit on the rail when the steering finally gets it there. Would anyone be will to do some on track experime...

Offset flat on front?
Has anyone ever tried to offset the flat on the nose of the car (to the right) to make the person staging the car put the DFW against the rail?? Is there any advantage/disadvantage??

Re: Wheel Bores
Welcome back Doc!!
I've got a package of .095 q-tips. Of they're a bit tight it's easy enough to lightly sand them in the drill press before applying the polishing compound.
