Re: Pinewood Free Speed Axles
Richard, Here is the outfit we got them from. I originally found these folks on eBay. Their website url is platsered on the tube of moly/graphite lube that came in their kit. The wheels are identical to the ones that came in the BSA Grand Prix kit we're required to use. http://www.pinewoodfreespeed...

Re: Slowest Car Award
Excellant idea gpraceman! If you don't mind could you send me a copy of the graphic? Da Graphite Kid These are the images that I found for the Best Gas Mileage Award plaques. I went with the second (not that I'm fond of Chevys). I printed them out on thick bond paper, took a black marker around the...

Re: Penalty System?
That sounds rather strange. What kind of organization hosted the event? It was a pack race. Here's the excerpts: My son and I both raced in our first derby tonight and we had the lowest cumulative time (#1 and #2). But we were both three wheelers and the Pack gave us a 10% time penalty (came out to...

Penalty System?
I read in another forum how a couple of racers were given a time penalty for having a 3 wheeler. :!: I had never heard of such a thing. Have any of you :?: What reasoning could there be to justify such a system :?: :?: To me it seems that it would just squelch innovation and implementation of freely...

Re: Is oil faster
Is oil quicker then dry lubricates? If it is how much faster is it? A generic statement cannot be made that oils are faster, since they can vary widely in viscosity and can gum up or collect dust and debris over time. You will find some oils that can be faster than some dry lubricants as shown by M...

Re: Overweight Cars and rounding of displayed weight
Greetings from a first-time poster, This is a great forum. I worked pretty much on my own 12 years ago advising my son with ideas and numbers which I had crunched myself. Now that I've discovered others who are really into the science of derby cars, I'm certain that I will attempt to read every thr...

Re: Another race comes and goes
What kind of stopping block was it a brick wall? Your daughter must have been in shock? She was definitely in shock. I think it was just a matter of force distribution. She had her wheels pushed forward so far that the front edges were pretty much even with the needle point nose. When her c...

Another race comes and goes
Well we had our race Saturday night and overall it was a good race. My daughter and my youngest son won 1st Place in Speed and my other son got 2nd Place in Design. My daughter's car looks much like a spike, with nothing much for a front end other than a crossbar to mount the wheels a very pointy no...

Re: Overweight Cars and rounding of displayed weight
I have a SunBeam postal scale that I bought at Office Depot for 29.99 last year. It a reads to the nearst .1 ounces and to the nearest gram. It does a good enough job for car building budget. I have also seen a digital scale that measures to 0.1 ounce at WalMart for $19.99. I recommend that these o...

That is factored into the precision, since you only see out to how many decimal places the device will give you in the measurements.Sparky wrote:I would throw in a 3rd consideration. Resolution: the smallest measurement interval.
