Re: Removing step on new 2009 Wheels
The issue with the step is that the DIAMETER of the circle that comes in contact with the axle is larger when the NAIL HEAD IS TAPERED. The larger diameter gives a larger moment arm(?) for the friction. The idea of doing a slight taper on the bottom of the nail head is that only the small inner circ...

Re: Removing step on new 2009 Wheels
The Pro Outer Hub Shaver will let you increase the depth of the countersink. This will make the outer edge to be the same depth as the inner edge resulting in a flat surface. This will cause the nail head to appear to be fully recessed. Do this only if that wheel mod is allowed. BTW, it is easily se...

Re: Tungsten vs. Composite
My web page is supposed to have been updated to reflect the current pricing. For some reason the hosting company wasn't letting it refresh to the newer prices/format.
Sorry for any confusion . . . I believe that the issue has been resolved.

Re: Track Vibration
Vibrations do occur and do make a difference. Two cars beside each other in the middle lanes will behave differently then the same two cars on the outer lanes of the 6 lane tracks. Vibrations SLOW the cars . . . I think of it as micro wobbles. . . not full fish tailing, sort of guppy wiggles. ;) Min...

Re: Beta Craft track plating for a test track?
The BetaCraft plating was originally designed to be ADDED to the base of the CUB SCOUT How-To-Book design OR to have a separate base built like the Challenger plans. You can screw the BetaCraft to plywood the same as the How-To-Book and end up with the same curve. Been there, done that. :-) It makes...

Re: RaceReplay
I'll tryt to get a video made of the race atmosphere at a race where we have RaceReplay running. It is sort of fun to watch the crowd turn their heads from the finish line back to the front to watch the replay. . . sort of like tennis. 8) I can hardly wait for the new season to start so we can see w...

Re: High nose cars
I agree about not limiting the kids creativity. . . but have found that reality sometimes does come into the rules. Northern Star Council: H. Front End – Depending upon the track, the front of the car may rest against a short starting pin. We therefore require that the front bottom of the car which ...

Here are some photos of a Challenger style track.

I also have several other photos of the various details if you want. The track is "flexible" like the loop that is from BestTrack.

Re: Wheel replacement guide questions
It is clearly NOT allowed in the Northern Star Council rules. G. Wheelbase –All cars must have a wheel base no less than 4", with the two rear wheels being positioned directly across the body from one another and the two front wheels being positioned directly across the body from one another. Y...

Re: PwdRacing HEAVY Weights
I'm looking into the marking of the material. . . had some marked with a laser! Cool to watch, slow to do. . . I've also come across some testing that I have to get completed before the retail packaging gets completed. This is the type of testing and certifications needed prior to getting my product...

Re: Fees for racing ? packs to council fees
The NorthernStar Council doesn't have any entry fees. . . we also only have $1000 budget for the entire event. Last year we awarded 50 trophies and pretty much wiped out the entire budget. That means that I forgot to include the postage for the invites to all of the kids from the district races, ins...

Ask and it will be answered - direct questions are best . . .I will do my best to confer what is known and if the PWDR builders visit this forum they will chime in here too.

Re: Wheel replacement guide questions
Don't know of any standard name. . . the manufacturer and resellers are attempting to give it meaning though. :scratching: A one sentence reply might be: The purpose is to reduce the wind resistance while performing the same "safety guide" feature of the raised front wheel in a Rail-Rider(...

Re: New BSA Wheel and Axle??
The way that the refilling of the bore is addressed by many rule sets is via the minimum axle diameter. Normally the advantage, as prior posts noted, is the reduced bore size resulting in less distance "effective friction distance" . . . . The one thing I hate about the book that was menti...
