Re: Maximum Velocity kits

I had an old guy moment today while packing up the blocks I prepped for our church race. I finished cutting them into wedges and counted up a total of 31 blocks even though I had ordered 36. I counted up my wheels and axles and was a few sets short of wheels also. I searched everywhere for the missi...

Re: Maximum Velocity kits

Thank you Sir. Unfortunately I had to order them yesterday to get them in time for next weekend's workshop. I'll keep this info in mind for next year if we do it again. I'll check the newsletter and hopefully they'll have a similar deal.

Maximum Velocity kits

I recently bought a bunch of MaxV kits for an upcoming church event we're having. I've never used them before or even seen them before. We bought them because they're much cheaper than BSA kits. The axle -to -bore clearance is much tighter than the BSA. The wheels are actually round. The axles have ...

Re: Stock wheelbase cars

Oct 7, 14 and an optional day on the 21st depending on how many racers we get. The car in my avatar is a photopaper project. It's easy and clean when done at the right point in the build process. I'm using your duct tape idea to save us from paint globs and smell. I'll try to get a pic on here of th...

Re: Stock wheelbase cars

I'm going to have them polish axles with metal polish just to give them something fun to do with a drill and see how they shine up. INstant gratification.

I'm going to have some duct tape but also will be printing off images onto photo paper that they can glue on if they want.

Disregard all questions. I should've read my e-mail first. Your pics answer all my questions.

Re: Stock wheelbase cars

THx Speedster. Great info as u usually give me. My wedges are cut diagonally, corner to corner but 1/8" from the actual corner so the fronts have 1/8" bumper. I see how u got ur low COM with fewer pennies behind the axle by shaving the wedge much thinner than ours. I'll have to go look at a block ag...

How do these numbers look?

I'm cutting cars for a church workshop. I'm using the stock axle slots and pennies for weights. I've never built a car with stock rear slot location and have a question. I get 25 pennies (2.30 oz) behind the rear slot in our wedge cars. This gives me a COM of .9251 which seems safe to me. Do I need ...

Re: Stock wheelbase cars

SPeedster, I'm waiting for someone to chime in also. I'm cutting cars for a church workshop and have settled on everyone gets a wedge. I have 2 stacks of pennies alongside each other behind the rear, stock slot. I t gives me 2.25 oz behind rear slot and a DFW weight of .91. THis seems like a very sa...

Re: wheel wax

I've heard of the MaxPro but never looked into it. So you DO NOT polish it with a clean pipe cleaner? Side note, I acquired a can of Jig prior to our last race. First time ever using it. I noticed when I sprayed it on that it appeared cloudy as if it had millions of tiny bubbles in it or something e...

wheel wax

We're sponsoring a derby race at our church in Ocober and building the cars onsite. I know of Liquid Glass and other vendor-specific wheel bore polishes but I'm wondering if there's a cheaper alternative I could buy and supply to the kids. I'm thinking something like McQuire's #26 or similar. We're ...

Re: MaxV wheels and oil

A bottle will go a long way with you or I applying it. I won't have total control over this as I'll have to have helpers working with the kids. We'll let kids put the oil on with the steel tipped Ny-Oil and I'm sure it will get over-applied in most cases. I'm kind of planning this event like you wou...

Re: MaxV wheels and oil

I'm putting together supplies for our first, church sponsored derby event. I'm using the Ny-Oil II because it's cheap in the 2 oz bottles compared to the common 5ml bottles or 1 dram bottles of other lubes. The church will be providing all the supplies and we've prohibited graphite just to keep thin...
