Re: Alt types of Krytox?

FS - thanks for the eBook link - will use the heck out of that!

Since the lube doesn't come off the axles when 'dry' one can assume that is is not an oil....and hence not wet.

Interpretation of the rules is always fun.

Re: Alt types of Krytox?

Looks like it MAY be allowed ;-) Wood, Wheels and Axles _ The official pinewood derby wooden block that is supplied to the boys must be used. The wooden block may be shaped in any way desired as to meet the specifications listed above. _ The original axle slots provided with the wooden block must be...

Re: Ideas on building.....

I have a bandsaw, table saw, scroll saw, jigsaw, drill press and a host of hand tools.......one could argue that all I am missing is talent. ;) In the process of building a demo/test track this year. My son is really hung up on the led police car....we discussed winning by going fast vs looking cool...

Re: Mini Video Camera

What did you buy from them (allelectronics)?

October vs November not a big deal - just the sooner the better in case we need to redesign (AGAIN!)

Thx

Re: Mini Video Camera

Great Q on the timing sensors - unsure how it will work out. My son wanted to mimic the local PD cars and they all have integrated lights behind the grill - no party hats any longer - so in order to be 'true' to form we have the front LED's. I do not have a timing sensor to test - if someone has one...

Re: Mini Video Camera

interestingly enough the red/blue blinking LED's that are 'designed' for 9v work just fine with a 3V coin cell lithium battery a SINGLE CR2032 seems to power them just fine. The real Q is longevity - can I get away with several hours off a single battery....will test shortly. EARLY prototype of the ...

Re: Ideas on building.....

just bought a bunch of 2032's on eBAY - might as well give it a shot. else I'll need to hollow out the rear of the car to accomodate the 9v battery first and then tweak weight & COM therafter. I would like to see my son win at lest a race or 2 before getting 'smoked' by a kid that bought his car...

Ideas on building.....

So my son (who watched a bunch of PWD videos on YouTube) is enamored with building a police car with working / flashing lights. I found lights that are red/blue LEDs that blink and look VERY similar to the real police lights for the township cars - HOWEVER - they require 9 volts to run. Design ideas...

Re: Mini Video Camera

Those radio shack clips are cheap and work well. I am in the process of building a police car with my son with blinking red/blue LED's all driven off of a 9V battery. Will post pics as this thing evolves.......it is a bummer that the auto blinking LEDs are only 9 volt and I have to use that huge hon...

Re: New Test Track

Love it, absolutely love it. I ended up returning the Hardi-Plank and bought 1/8 inch x 4' x8' hardboard - I ripped it into 8 inch sections on the table saw which gave me 5 perfect 8 inch sections and one that was narrower due to blade thickness which I am not using. The Q - is length - to build a '...

Re: New Test Track

The Orange Box store had the same ones - ridiculously expensive in the overall scheme of things. 4 foot sections were $2.69 and I needed 18 of them. I was not able to get the melamine boards that you describe - it just seemed that the boards they had did not have enough 'bend' in them to work. I loo...
