Dremel Derby Days
It seems that voting has been completed in the 2016 Dremel Derby Days, in this competition they were giving away a 3D printer. The winners have been announced on the Dremel Facebook page, not sure if this can be seen without being a member of Facebook. But here are the winners, I’m assuming in order...

Re: Shop ideas
Here is another one I have wanted to build the last couple of years. When we are polishing axles we place the paper on a mis-drilled pinewood block, sometimes the paper gets all messed up and falls off the table that is holding the block. And when I am blowing the axles dry after cleaning them the a...

ah8tk: Good to know about the dust issue. I'll have to make some kind of hood to sit over it. Guy in the video said that it took about 30 minutes to dry. BTW, it makes me sad that the images are broken in the post you linked. :) Most of the images are back, the others, from later in the post may be...

Re: Pledge Floor Care Finish?
General Motors used only lacquer paint, not enamel, on their cars in the 60's. Who can tell me what the letters COPO stand for? Except for Stan Pope. We know he knows the answer. Central Office Production Order- was Chevrolet's special-order system, notoriously used by dealers in the 1960s to build...

Re: Scroll saw advice?
Here is an axle bend gauge I tried last year and a saw tilt gauge I made after seeing Whoda’s gauge in action:

The links are shared now... The saw tilt gauge is really an interesting, simple and accurate way of setting your table on a jig or band saw.

Re: Web Car?
It was apparently built by Matt McConnell, he seems to be an artist who makes sculptures from steel, wood and acrylics.

it is called the 'Future' -Pine Car Derby Racer - lots more pictures here.

Re: Web Car?
Here is another view of the same car: http://goodnightraleigh.com/uploaded_images/Future-Derby-websize-01.jpg The base of each wheel set is wood, I guess it depends on the rules this raced under. The web structure is definitely a metal, i'm guessing stainless steel. It is very cool idea for a car. I...

Andy what is the purpose of the vertical cut in block? I’m assuming you are talking about the cut below: https://drive.google.com/uc?id=1ZcpSp4So-2iF6nj-t2sdpnUmpGn3GcYD This slot is for the front of the bottom plate. The cut above the red line is a mistake (this is what happens when the cut is mad...

I did not want metallic paint as the automobile metallics are often too large metallic flakes. But it is tough to find a silver that is not metallic. The Testors metallics have the smaller metallics so they look better.

Re: 2015 car 1971 Javelin / AMX
Have you tried using other woods like balsa or basswood for the added pieces to make your car bodies lighter? I have used some basswood for an 18 wheel truck I built for the CVSN Pinewood Challenge. I am not a big fan of balsa wood. I don’t want to spend a lot of time on shaping something that can ...

Re: 2015 car 1971 Javelin / AMX
Some of the racing leagues have classes where you race with a 1/25th scale plastic model attached to the top of the car. That never really excited me much, because, y'know, it's just a plastic model. But a class where you actually had to build a realistic looking racer out of wood is something spec...

2015 car 1971 Javelin / AMX
The car I decided to build was the 1971 Penske Racing - Mark Donohue Javelin / AMX. This is the same car that won the 1971 SCCA Trans Am championship, with 7 wins of 10 events. At the time little AMC beat the big three with their new Javelin / AMX. Last summer when we were in Kenosha, for the homeco...

2015 car 1939 Chevy Sedan
Once I had the plan for a the Sedan Delivery completed I figured it wouldn’t take much time to make a 1939 Chevy Sedan. My neighbor has a `39 Chevy street rod: https://drive.google.com/uc?id=1ciZWWyXyuhOC76qV43b0hW4YMFimn4Er I figured that it wouldn’t take much to modify the plan to a sedan: https:/...

Very nice! Cool that the boy scout still likes making pinewood derby cars. Noah sets a display of our cars almost every weekend, during pinewood derby season. He discusses the builds with scouts and parents, as they ask questions: https://drive.google.com/uc?id=12w7_t3KIv6xA-Vcnk_aEpqji7t7YFBQ-
