Various Cubmobile Designs
Just what I need - another obsession! The cubmobile derby is coming up and I'm interested to see what other designs are out there other than the one in the back of the Bear handbook that everyone uses. Like this one: http://www.pack1776.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/cubmobile.jpg I saw some posts a...

Where to buy supplies
Hi everyone! It's been a while. Pinewood Derby season was on hold over the summer, but my boy ended up getting 3rd place at district! He's very proud! One year to go and try for 1st! :D We're building a cubmobile for the first time in our pack - at least in alot of years. I was wondering where peopl...

Re: 2011 Construction Underway
Well, as luck would have it we had a little setback last night. We went to put a few coats of clear on the black car and somehow ended up with a crinkled gooey mess. Been there done that. My daughter and I were working on hers the night before the derby, final touches and such. I told her to go to ...

Re: Thanks!!
Congrats on your good run. As for the derail, that's a tough one. In that case it could be that no one will be happy. If the heat isn't rerun, you'll be sad. If it's rerun and you do win, the guy who one first will be unhappy.

Re: Last minute change to car handling rules
We always have the adults stage the cars. Webelos have the honor of carrying cars from finish back to start and are given a speech before to walk and handle like eggs.
Just our tradition. We've never had compliants.

Re: How many lanes should I get?
We have a 6 lane track and it's lots of fun, but big and cumbersome. It does seem to be alot of fun. Each car runs 6 times and there seem to be alot of heats and alot of different winners in heats. It's always a surprise as to who will win overall based on times. If we had to buy again.....I'd consi...

Re: Mothers polish question
I'm not sure about the polish, but wouldn't the alcohol just counteract the polish?

My new way was using q-tip shafts to polish the bore instead of just a pipe cleaner. It's probably a skill that needs developing, but I was better with pipe cleaner.

Re: How to Cut Narrow Body and Install Weight
I was thinking that the cylinders sticking up might cause drag. What's better a little taller wedge or cylinders sticking up. I've already got the cylinders so I don't think I'll spring money for cubes.
I could probably get access to a table saw too. Problem is that I have no belt sander.

Re: What a night - PWD is about building the car
I've been thinking about this and two words come to mind: Courage and Persistence. Courage to try something that isn't guaranteed to win and persistence to keep trying when it doesn't. No one knows for sure how well a car will peform until race day is over, it takes courage to try. Losing causes dis...

How to Cut Narrow Body and Install Weight
I'm wanting to move body styles to the thin sleek design, but have a few questions. How do you cut such a thin design and keep it straight? Do you use a bandsaw and a fence? I've tried freehand with a scroll saw with disappointing results. How thick should a small thin car be? I have some Tungsten c...
