Re: Pinecar one piece axles
My curiosity is running wild. Your race certainly allows for a lot of creativity. What fun that must be. Your rules sound like the rules we have for our "OUTLAW" race. I'll guess the 1st place winner was running a rail rider and was trying to get more speed. Did the 1st place winner run aw...

Re: District Invitational
Thank you FS and birddog for clarifying that for me. That type system is new to me.

Re: District Invitational
Birddog, am I reading this correctly? A Pack can enter only 3 cars in the racing division. If 1st Place winners were chosen to go to District that would mean 2 First Place winners would not get to race the District. Is that correct?

Re: District Invitational
I would stay conservative on how many racers you invite. I'll tell you what our District does and it might give you some idea. We have a 4 lane Best track and a 4 lane Freedom track. The 1st and 2nd place winners from each Pack go to District. There are 15 Packs in the District which gives 30 racers...

Re: Pinecar one piece axles
I'm still fascinated by your rules.
If you entered a car 1/4" thick, tungsten 1/4" cubes for weight, 3/4" COM, extended wheelbase, 3 wheel rail rider, drilled axle holes, .093 stainless steel axles, 1.4 gram wheels, would this car be legal under your rules?

Re: DGF 123 dry graphite lubricant spray
To stay on Topic, I'll say "No", even though it might be in your particular District. Prepping and Lubing a wheel hub is a fairly involved procedure. There are excellent dry graphites on the market and Hob-E-Lube seems to be very popular. Many top racers mix different graphites together wh...

Re: Pinecar one piece axles
I'll stick with Hobby Lobby. Your car has already been cut out so your son can sand and paint it a bit. Hobby Lobby 1. Buy Troy Thorne's latest book "Building the Fastest PINEWOOD DERBY CAR" and speed read it. Pay attention to "Railriding" and wheel bore prep. I hope they have th...

Re: Pinecar one piece axles
OK, I'm curious. I've never heard of this before. Do the Cub leaders not want you to use BSA kits? Can you use BSA kits? Are you working with a set of rules? If we knew your rules it would be easier to help you. If you can use any axles, Awana axles are available as well as many excellent after mark...

Re: Thin car blues
I followed psycaz method. For an example, check Derby Evolution, Poplar Bodies Laser Cut, the "Inferno" Pinewood Derby car body. I glued the cap on after cutting the body. You then turn the car upside down and install the squares on the cap and 3 sides of wood. I finished off the back with...

Scojo, you might like to consider the new tool at Maximum Velocity, the Pro-axle bender, Part # 5128. 10% off at this time. It appears to be quite versatile and easy to use.

I really like that stepping down-track a few feet and watching the cars . My hat is off to you, Stan.

Do you teach your scout to be last?
What kind of a Subject line is that? I've started cars at both our Pack and then at our District for many, many years. I try to calm the boys and tell them to take their time putting their cars on the track and not bump another car. The boys would put their cars on the track and I would hold them at...

Re: Painting-Basecoat/Clearcoat Paint
Whoda, normally when I don't know the answer to something I just make something up. However, I can't even think of something to make up on this question. I'm sure there is a way to get a rusty look but I don't know how to do it. Give it a try and teach us all something. I eagerly await your results....

Re: Accurate testing on a shorter track?
You're right, FS. I apologize. He actually stated to me he would like to outfit his Pack's track with a timer. I then assumed too much. I can't see what help it would be to run a car down a track without a timer. I suppose if you have a quality 2 lane track and build multiple cars you could run the ...
