Re: District Race

I wasn't invited and I'm fine with that. A very capable Boy Scout did the Inspections and his mother, a Girl Scout leader, did the Check-Ins. I'll hear about everything later when they return my things. I got a call and everything went well for the Pack 217 race. I hope things go well for the new fo...

Re: District Race

I have just learned Pack 217 will have an "In person", Pinewood Derby race this evening starting at 6PM. Other then the scouts, it's Parents only. The reason I was notified is because I own the scale and inspection station and no one else has one. The track was set up last night. I have ev...

District Race

I have learned we have a new District Executive and she connected with some Pack and then announced we will have a District Race in March. My Pack, Pack 217, use to supply everything for the District race but it looks like we will not be involved this year with the District race. When the District r...

Re: Axle bender wanted

Howdy OOBigFish As far as I know, there are 2 commercially made axle benders. 1. Pro-Axle Press $17.95 and Pro-Rail rider tool $12.95 plus $7,95 shipping- Total $38.85. You would need both these pieces. They will bend a 1 1/2 or 2 1/2 angle 2, Pro-Axle Bender $79,95 plus $7.95 shipping - Total $87,9...

Re: Goodbye Hobby Lobby 40% off Coupon

Thanks for the info. That is really disappointing. I hope that's not a sign the stores are about to close.

Re: Wedge Angle

I Love the Wedge car. I was playing with tungsten cylinders and a wedge block yesterday. Without doing anything to the wedge I find it difficult to get the COG down to 3/4" in front of the rear axle slot. 3/4" just happens to be my favorite. I realize things can be done to add more weight ...

Re: Build a Winning Pinewood Derby Car

Thank you. You are correct. It is a Coping Saw. It says so right on the package. I knew my short term memory was gone but I actually believed I could read correctly. I listed it in "Senior Moment". Now, where the Heck did I put my glasses.
Stay Safe.

Re: Build a Winning Pinewood Derby Car

Whoda, speaking of scroll saws.
Hobby Lobby has a Racer Tool Set. It has 1 scroll saw, 5 blades, 1 wood rasp for $13.99. It was displayed with the other Derby things.
Don't forget the 40% OFF one item.

Re: Wedge Angle

If you are choosing the Wedge for speed then science will give you the answer. A very slim basic wedge gets rid of a lot of wood ( weight ) and that's what you need to do. Let's choose 2 weight designs, 3/8" tungsten cylinders and 1/4" tungsten cubes or blocks. For cylinders you will drill...

Scouting Wire

The January 6 email I got from "Scouting Wire" has an article about the Pinewood Derby and how to have Derby races, etc.
You can sign up for their Newsletter. I've always enjoyed it and maybe you will too.

OK, Gentlemen, just one last comment if I may. Doesn't the price of those tools try to tell you something?

Re: Pro Body Tool 3.0

I'm curious who is recommending a 3 degree cant and why. Is there any science to back this up?

We bend the dominant front nail to steer the car. Why not do the same thing for the rears? I know I'm Off Topic but I am curious.
