Re: Who else races on a 35' Best Track?
Our pack uses that track. Yesterday we pulled average 2.5's. Best was 2.54.

Re: Casting lead weights
I cast directly into the body this year. I pre-drilled the block then melted down old fishing weights and car battery cells. Went perfectly.

Wow. Been a long time since I was in here. To answer that question- 3rd place + a ribbon for the paint job.FatSebastian wrote:So how did you make out this year, TP?Turbo_Python wrote:Race day is the 30th. Re: Best track specs?????????
Nope, just a dial caliper. Heh heh. That's what I meant. Different locales, different lingo. Thanks again, it's a huge help in understanding why our last car only pulled 3rd place. This year's car was to wide between the front wheels. I needed to know the exact distance on those rails to tighten it...

Re: Best track specs?????????
I just measured my track. Outside of the of a center rail to the outer edge is 15/16". I hope this is the dimension you are looking for. Not quite. On Best Track, there are 2 center rails that make the lane so to speak(between the wheels). They are a 1/4" in height. But the exact distance...

We got our kits about 10 days ago I think. Race day is the 30th. We kept last years design but it's way more cut down. Hopefully FASTER! I'll post pics after race day.

It's that time of year again!
Hope everyone is ready! I took last year's car design/model and cut it down a bit more on the new kit. Reshaped the profile a bit. But the the most unique characteristic is the direct poured lead into the body. This worked perfectly. Had some minor burning, but it was very minimal. I calculated the ...

Re: An issue of ethics
Thats a very good point. Not everyone has a machine shop, and I inquired repeatedly about how far we can go, and I got the official answer as we just follow the rules laid out by BSA on website link X. I got there and find nothing more than I already knew. So I ask my den leader and he was as eager ...

Re: An issue of ethics
...So we like PWD, so we build cars months in advance, and test them 9 ways to Sunday. Is it considered unethical to have an edge like a test track? Or are we just taking it seriously? Having a test track is not unethical at all. Now when you say you build cars months in advance that could be consi...

Re: An issue of ethics
I have thought about the possibilities. I have considered that if anyone else wants to win, then they need to work as hard as we do. Still I'd like to have some opinions on it before I buy materials and go to town. Its not like we are going to build a car and test it all year for one race, but to bu...

An issue of ethics
My son and I decide to jump into this with both feet. No prob, I want to build a 2 lane test track in my basement. However, I realize most kids will never have a PWD tack their basement much less built to specs same as our pack's track. So we like PWD, so we build cars months in advance, and test th...
