We have a two lane track and have use DE in the past. We now have a two lane and timer with 28 scouts, what is the best scheduling for a small pack? :D

Well, depends on your definition of "best". Every scheduling method has its pros and cons, so you need to evaluate which will work best for your racers, audience and race crew.

Personally, I recommend using Perfect-N scheduling.

If you must have some elimination, do a multi-round format (i.e. Prelims and Finals). Within each round there is no elimination but you can trim down the number of racers to run for the trophies. Keep the number of rounds to a minimum, since the more eliminations there are, the more racers that can lose interest in the race, get into mischief or leave early.

If you are running times, then just race 'em all in one chart (no prelim + finals) and use the times. The specific opponents that each car races plays only a small role in the times achieved. Cars will have equal number of runs in each lane.

If you are running points, then definitely use prelim + finals, advancing about twice as many racers to finals as you are awarding trophies. 4 trophies = 8+ finalists. And make the number of finalists odd (7, 9, 11 ,...). 4 trophie = 9 or 11 finalists. This will give you much better accuracy than one chart and no finals. The reason is that most of these charts will not be well enough balanced in opposition that the luck of the draw plays, in my opinion, too heavy a role.
