That is what I was thinking. Give yourself the best starting point that you can by drilling the axle hole with the closest composite angle possible, then adjust from there if needed.

Which is easier (at least, for us casual builders), measuring the bend angle of an axle to within 0.1 degree? Or measuring the separation between two spacers to within 1/8"?

With drilling, you are left with the task of drilling quality holes, but that is true whether you drill at an angle or perpendicular! I think that I posted info about drilling quality holes and about assessing their quality. Probably no "easy to remember" key words for finding those posts, though.

I think that I have not linked it from my "Pinewood Portal" since the graphics aren't done yet! Many of the fellers here can figure out what they should look like, though, so I don't feel bad posting the link here.

The "calculators" were kinda fun and are somewhat of a challenge to write since they are "2-way", i.e. you input what you know and the calculator will try to compute what is left! Kinda makes one's brain squeak unless the exercise is entered "well oiled."

Off Topic:
I think that tonight and tomorrow will be kinda hectic ... had a power blip today and my "main computer" went "casters up". (I don't know if it was a "mains spike" or a "UPS malfunction". I'm suspicious of the latter!) Another result was that my Router/WIFI Access erased all my settings, leaving my LAN "naked and exposed" to the internet. Only the individual machine firewalls were working to deflect the NoGoodNics. So far as I can tell no other adverse effects. The first order of business will be to move the HD to another computer and rip up to date versions of files to a different HD and make sure that my "accounts and passwords" file was not left on the HD by mistake (I try to work it directly to and from a jumpdrive, but ... Then either fix it myself (if I can) or take it to a pro. Wish me luck!
