Looked at the pictures, I suggest getting on the committee, drafting easier rules, get more workshop time, more education time.

I see lots of wood, not much racing.
Just my opinion of course, if the kids are having a great time and learning, let 'em at it!
My wife started a new support group... Widows of the Pinewood Derby.
