2012 Underway

Post by botomgun »

Well, I had full intentions of getting done early this year, but work took me away and we are now into the final week of building. I'll put a few more pictures up as we near completion. The cars are all primed, top coats go on tonight. Wheel prep is done. I know the fenders will not help the last car with speed, but it wasn't built for that. It was just something fun.

This is the design my youngest came up with:

Progress so far:

Oldest design. He liked this from 2 years ago (I think because he won the pack)

My car for the adult division:

And the one that I really wanted to put more time into:

Thanks for the welcome! It's been about a year since I wwas here last.

The paint is Krylon Satin Burgundy. I wanted to just keep it in gray primer, but since the wifes name is on the title, I went with the closest I could get to burgundy primer. It is still too shiny for me, though. I need to lay down the pinstriping tonight to finish it up. First time with that.

Good luck with the pinstriping.
And thanks for the paint brand & color.

I hope you'll post a photo or two of the cars when you get them all finshed up.

Whoda.

The red car looks like something that might have been used in the [censored] Tracy movie, and the black one looks like a cruise missile. :)

I like the Delahaye 135 idea. I think I'll make one for next year. Thanks for the idea!

Are those modeled after real missiles and torpedoes?

The gray one was modeled after an AIM-9 Sidewinder missile and the green one after a MK-48 ADCAP torpedo.

So the derby went well. Much better this year with our brand new Best Track and Champ scoring system. We had a wooden tack previously with the Judge scoring, but this took the derby to a whole new level.

My Webelo was undefeated the entire day and will be going to district. His top time on a 32' best track was 2.58. The rest of the runs were all right around the same times.

Image

My Wolf's car did well, but it wouldn't get under 2.68. He was still staisfied with the car.

Image

My car was undefeated throughout the adult division except for one run that my wifes car decided to win. Still, it beat my 4 year rival relentlessly.

Image

The wifes car ran much faster than I thought it was going to and finished second in the aduilt division. It was running pretty strong 2.7's.

Very cool. I see you got some of the shine out of your wife's car. Was that due to work or just the photo? It now has the look of an old 40's-50's wooden toy. Very nice!
