Walnut Wonder

Post by FIRENZE »

A new approach to building a pinewood derby car, local lumber. An unexpected surprise from a storm during the spring of 2013, a Walnut tree was toppled over in a neighbors yard. The house is located in a part of North Atlanta where Walnut trees are rare. The amount of character in the grain is unique from one board to the next.

The boards are currently air drying. I am considering contacting a sawmill to inquire about kiln drying. Board thickness is 2" to 4". The chainsaw used to cut the wood disc into sections has a 20" bar. The car will be a work in progress.
