2015 car 1939 Chevy Sedan

Post by ah8tk »

Once I had the plan for a the Sedan Delivery completed I figured it wouldn’t take much time to make a 1939 Chevy Sedan. My neighbor has a `39 Chevy street rod:

I figured that it wouldn’t take much to modify the plan to a sedan:

The modification to a sedan was actually quite easy, I just hope the build is this easy. I started the same as the delivery, two blocks glued stacked, with the weight relief pocket cut out. Then cut out wheel wells and glue sides on:

Then the sides are trimmed to 2 3/4", on the table saw. And the DFW is recessed into the block:

The horizontal and vertical cuts were made:

And the carving began:

Then it was off to sand the shape into the body and fenders, and add the running boards:

About this time I realized that making 2, fat fendered, shapely, cars was a lot of work. On the sedan I reshaped the hood twice, and in the process I made the nose too rounded. Then, I needed to build the front and rear lights for the sedan:

Priming and painting:

After priming I realized the roof was too square and the hood sides were still not right, more reshaping:

This one was also approaching 5 oz., so it was time for the weight loss regimen:

It was time for decoration, the tail lights are actually painted:

The axles were polished, the wheel bores were polished and waxed, and it was lubed and run down the test board. It was set to steer 3” in 4’, it was ready to race.

The `39 Chevy came in 4th in the Real Street (actually received the 3rd place trophy).

The last picture is a comparison:

My list of cars that I want to build is long, every year it changes. I still have plenty to go.

Not taking requests yet.

Andy & Noah,

Guy's I like what you've done with the chrome detail works seen on the Sedan.

To bad you're not takeing on RQ's right now!
There is one car I have in mind that I'd like to see someone make some time
a.. 1956 BMW/Avla III- Special.
What type of automobile can be spelled the same forwards & backwards?
