Ultrasonic cleaning for axles!
After reading over a few topic's discussing cleaning processes for wheel's found here:
https://www.derbytalk.com/viewtopic.php ... ner#p54475
I was wondering if any one has used an ultrasonic cleaner for cleaning up the axles as well.
Before or after.. polishing the axle.. or as a re-prep. & what cleaning solutions mix's might one try ?
Like alkaline solutions, high caustic solutions, acidic solutions, enzymatic solutions, or de-ienized water.
Or Home brew solutions, like super tech or Windex.. windshield wiper fluid and distilled water and so on.

That would be interesting. I have a unit I bought to clean my glasses. Never thought of using it for axles!

Hi Whodathunkit. I have an Ultrasonic cleaner with variable power modes. I use the high power setting and use rubber coated hemostats (tweezers) to hold onto axles while they clean. I use the equivalent of 6 tablespoons of Mr Clean, and ammonia. Takes about 30 seconds. Works awesome!! I've been using that solution for around 22 yrs.

Thanks
So does the ammonia discolor or eat away at the plating on the axles?
Hear tell to stay away from it for the air brush parts however.

To Whodathunkit. No, it will not affect the plating. I have info to back that. Ammonia can be used on precious metals and diamonds and gem stones as well. Just need a few tablespoons in a quart of hot water with 6 tablespoons Mr. Clean. E mail me and I can tell U more.
