New Logo - Need Feedback

Post by gpraceman »

Well, the logo deign contest entry period is now over. Now I have to decide which design to select as the winner. I have trimmed the 46 entries down to my top 6, which are shown below.

Please look over these and let me know what you think. You can vote for your Top 3 designs in the poll above. Note, I can ask the designer to make changes to their design, so you can also recommend changes to any of these. I've added comments as to what I would like changed with each of these.

Entry 11 - NayeemDesign
+ The site name needs to be more prominent.
+ The car needs to look more like a race car.
+ Tweak the color scheme a bit.
Image

Entry 13 - Attebasile
+ Make the silhouettes a bit more obvious that it is a child and an adult.
+ Shield background needs to contrast with the car color.
+ Remove red outlining of the forum name.
+ Maybe change the car design.
Image

Entry 21 - kamikira
+ Get rid of the flames.
+ Remove the checkered flag.
+ Change bottom section of shield to be black and white checkered.
+ Move wings behind shield and give a 3D look.
+ Maybe change the wings to be exhaust pipes.
Image

Entry 37 - publismart
+ Change car design to something that looks more like a PWD car.
Image

Entry 39 - publismart
+ Change gear to a racing wheel.
+ Apply 3D effect to forum name.
Image

Entry 46 - THEGEOL
+ I like the PWD track look.
+ Remove grey outline from forum name.
+ Maybe inset forum name into the bottom section of the shield, instead of laid on top.
+ Maybe put forum name under the shield and use the bottom section of the shield for something else (but what?), or move the flag to the bottom section and use the corners for something else (but what?).

# 21. Any or all of your suggestions and make the car Dark Blue. Maybe make "Derby Talk" in Gold letters.

From the above choices, I like #21 the best, with your changes. Just my opinion, but as a drag racer, I've never understood the connection of a checkered flag, with drag racing. Roundy- round racing, for sure, but I've never seen a checkered flag indicate a win in a drag race (or be involved in any way). I am obviously a minority in my thinking, as I see cars at the strip all the time with checkered flag paint schemes. I just don't understand it, lol.

Two of you like #21, but the poll only shows 1 vote for that. :scratching:

This is my favorite, although I would also suggest simplifying the car's design, so that it looks more like a derby version of a formula race car, rather than like a formula race car. Also, I don't really like the exhaust pipes on the sides, since derby cars don't have exhaust pipes (except as decoration). And I like the idea of making the forum name part of the shield, instead of sitting in front of the shield.

I like #46. Some suggestions for further evolving the logo would be to have 'Derby Talk' just above the shield, or 'Derby' above the shield and 'Talk' below the shield. I also agree with Darin that the exhaust pipes look out of place and that the car should look a little less like a real formula one car, and a little more like a Pinewood Car replica of a formula one car. There's also just a little too much gray in the color palette. Work with the coloring to make it 'pop' a little more (flames?)

Not sure why Tapatalk doesn't yet support polls. I guess that you'll just have to use a regular browser to vote. ;)

Well, Entry# 46 was the winner. I'll get with the designer to make some tweaks to it to get it to its final form.

I appreciate all those that voted and provided feedback on the designs.

I worked with the artist to make some tweaks to the winning design. The Formula 1 car now more closely resembles a PWD creation. The forum name is a part of the shield, instead of on top of it. The forum name also stands out better now. I looked at the design with and without the exhaust pipes and thought that it looked better with them (seemed top heavy without). I debated trying to include some more elements to make it more of a representation of PWD, but thought that the design would just get too busy.

I hope that ya'll like the new logo.
