Loop-the-Loop Track
Re: Loop-the-Loop Track
Very nice work Allen! Thanks for the additional photos. Really cool idea and looks to be tons of fun for the kids. Would be a great addition to any derby during down time, help minimize the scatter of short attention spans. I am still a bit concerned regarding the stop section. It seems they land (crash) with quite a thump, could reek havoc on alignment for those involved with a concomitant derby. I wonder if a foam pit or down pillows to catch them might be easier on the wheels? In any event, great idea and thanks for sharing.

Re: Loop-the-Loop Track
Nice work, Allan.
Your setup has me thinking
What would a Cub Scout (/Awana/etc.) modeling "triathalon" look like?
In addition to the Pinewood Derby, Space Derby, and Raingutter Regatta, you could have an event that combined all three.
Attach a small rocket to a buoyant car and run it down a track like Allan's, but with an appropriately wide raingutter as the "landing area". Either run side by side "set-ups" for a point system, or race based on elapsed time from start of track to end of rain gutter.
I would build one (car, that is) just to give it a try. Thoughts?
(or maybe I should just slip away quietly and go to bed now).
