What is not working? Just the timer communications?dave driskill wrote:this year my laptop died, now i have windows 7 and cant get the software to work. no comm port keeps coming up. any advice
If you do not see any COM ports listed in the Hardware Setup screen then it seems that you are trying to use a USB to Serial Adapter without having the drivers installed for it. The adapter should have come with a driver CD, either a mini CD or a regular sized one. If you cannot find that, you can try to see if the adapter manufacturer has the drivers posted on their website. You should probably do that anyways, to make sure you have the drivers for Windows 7.
I would recommend that you make sure that you are running with the last update for that version, which is 7.0.1515.11. If not, you can download that from our file archives at http://grandprix-software-central.com/g ... rchive.php
Please give us a call if you still encounter problems. Our phone number and hours are listed at http://grandprix-software-central.com/contact_us.php.

If you require the Profilic driver, the USB to Serial driver I use for Windows 7 can be found at: http://www.prolific.com.tw/Eng/downloads.asp?ID=31. Select the PL2303_Prolific_DriverInstaller_v110.zip file.

Re: grand prix software
Not all USB adapters use the same microchip, so any old driver may not work. Best to check the adapter manufacturer's website for the latest drivers. Prolific and FTDI microchips are the ones most commonly used for these adapters, but there might be others out there.zeezop wrote:The USB to Serial driver I use for Windows 7 can be found at: http://www.prolific.com.tw/Eng/downloads.asp?ID=31. Re: grand prix software
I do not know if tip will help but, I have a old, old laptop that I bought on Ebay, that I keep in the storage box with our track for a backup. It cost $70.00. I check it before the race season to make sure everything is okay, and then use the newer laptop to run the race. You might want to check out some of your local computer store to see if they might donate a old laptop. This might be overkill on my part, but the most stressfull part for me is right before the race starts. After that it's fun. I also need to put in a plug for grand prix software. it has made it great(and for me idiot proof) for many races.
