Issues in 2014 Space Derby

Post by Rfieldbuilds »

So, I do PWD and Space Derby and have done so for a few years. I love PWD-Easy results with effort. Space Derby is another story...
Last year was difficult. this year was 2-3X as difficult. It seems BSA changed the red rubber/plastic tubing on the prop assembly. We had numerous props breaking, rubber bands braking, and MOSTLY, problems with the rubber bands coming off the connection wire that connects the prop to the rubber bands. Looking at the RED TUBING, it seems BSA has changed suppliers, or the supplier changed the tubing. It now seems to be WAY TOO BIG versus the prop wire size.

If you buy the prop kit in the Scout Shop, you will see the difference. The red plastic/rubber sleeve in the 'prop kit' is the old style. We had way less problems with this in the past. In fact, between the tears of scouts and the resigned attitudes of scout leaders, I had to donate prop assemblies my kids had used in former years to keep several kids in the race that would have otherwise quit and go home.

Am I alone here or has anyone else experienced this?
