Ideas for an Autowinder?

Grant Thompson is making an automatic rope winding machine. He posts the first part of the video here:

Of course, what I'm wondering is whether his contraption might serve as the basis for a Space Derby autowinder? Hmmm. :)

It would seem that you could adapt that to wind rubber bands for Space Derby rockets.

I think the design would need to be modified to give each "spindle" (for lack of a better term) two pulley attachments, so that you could "daisy chain" one spindle to another. You'd also need one hooked up to some kind of a counter so you could make sure you do the same number of turns for each.
