First time RainGutter Regatta Builder

Post by jtslj »

My son's first ever pack metting is this week and I am finishing up his boat and getting ready to mount the Keel and Rudder.

This is the Cub Kit boat out of Balsa wood and I am wondering if it is better to follow the "instructions" for Keel positioning or to put the rudder where the instructions state with The keel mounted touching the Rudder?

Jtlsj,

Our experience has been that it is better to mount the keel and rudder together – back to back – as far aft (back) on the boat as is possible. This helps by placing more of the weight in the back and hopefully will cause the boat to float bow (nose/front) up when viewed from the side. The idea is that the boat will ride up on the top of the water (a planning type boat hull) as opposed to pushing through the water (a displacement type boat hull).

For future boat building you may want to check the following web sites which I found helpful a few years back (I am assuming that they are both still viable web sites):

I found this site through one of those pages looking around today.

I will get pictures of the boat here.

How about a few topic suggestions..

I see a cars picture area.. what about a boats picture area.

What about an Introductions area not necessarily in the boats section..

We just did our first Regatta. Thank you so much for this website!
We used a lipless plastic gutter.
Then we used the 1/4" plywood under neath the gutterwith some 2x4's for supports. That worked great. I Googled Catamarans Raingutter Regatta
and found a free website
http://webpages.charter.net/cschott/boat/supercat.html

We all made Catamarans and had a great time.

Next Year the Space Derby And WE Will Have Completed the Quadfacti
