hydroplane mast/sail location

We have our Scout Regatta coming up and I would like to help my son build the hydroplane model from teh BSA kit. We have to use all parts from the kit and the hull has to remain in 1 piece. I have seen recommendations to move the sail back and I'm just wondering how far back is optimal for this type of boat design?
