Hey DerbyTalk! Just throwing this up as a thankyou for all the excellent info I've found here. This is my first year racing since my last year as a clubber. Figured it would be a great way to get a head start for when mine are old enough, maybe get into leading some while I'm at it. Anyway, just we brought home a first place speed trophy from regionals against some great competition.
A little about the car. Yes, that's a carbon fiber tube. The whole concept is minimalist approach (if it's not helping, it gets taken off), accurate construction, and stable design. If you had it aligned last night, it doesn't make any difference today when the car warps in a different environment.
Specs:
Full wheel base -1/8" in the front to protect from damage.
Wheels trued and polished.
Roughly 7/8" COM. Pretty compact, especially with the CF section.
Zero toe on all running wheels.
Zero cant on DFW, ~2.5° upward on rear for hub migration.
Hillman's graphite tube lube from the hardware store, just worked in.
Axles hubs coned and polished with mother's aluminum mag polish on a dremel.
Anyway, it works great. I set it up to ride the rail at 3.5"/10' and it performed with excellent constancy at the club race. The regionals understandably gave the good tracks to the kids, so we raced on a first version FastTrack. Just about every car got derailed at least once. I think this is where the solid design really shined. Other racers were watching their times go up as the race went on. Mine did not.

Thanks again for the excellent info. This is a wonderful sport, and it's great to look forward to passing this down to the next generation!
First Place, thanks guys!
