I agree! We've done several cars with lighting, but always the kind that you put on a bicycle inner tube. They go off with the vibration. I’ve used them as a top siren type light, for Sparky’s tail (he’s a firefly for you nonAWANA folks) and this year we buried one under some twigs for a camp fire.[/quote]

ciodude- Interesting idea using the bicycle lights. Hadn't thought of that one.....but I like it  Got a pic of the campfire car?

Here it is. It's not too hard to see the clear plastic trip under the twigs in the larger pictures. When it vibrates, this light flashes red, perfect for the campfire. My oldest daughter (11) helped her younger sister (6) put the hair on the figure. The brown part she painted is the dirt and the green is the grass.

I'm planning a "campfire" design this year too, so I really appreciate this design. Thanks for sharing!

Very cool. We whent witht the police car this year as well, and it was a huge hit with the scouts and parents. It is nice to see you get the trophies/awards for winning the judged cadagories and the race itself. Our police car was voted best for "fastest looking", but since he won the race, they pass down the judged part to kids who didn't place in top 5 of race. I can see why they do it, but at the same time, it kinds makes kids like my son who put alot of work in a car, and make it look like it does, and not get the due award/reward for it. It kinda made him feel like kids got rewarded when they shouldn't have. Lukily he wasn't upset by it. Sorry for getting off topic, Agin, nice cars, and congrats on the day!!

Love the campfire car! Great detail :bigups:

j.m.- I am with you on the trophy situation. I understand why they would do it but on the other hand i feel like in some ways it penalizes the boys who put in the hard work :/

Luckily in our pack they do not judge that way since his police car took second in weeblos 2.

btw- got any pics j.m.?

Wow... I love the s'more car. The guitar car is nice too, especially the way the red rear wheels match the body of the guitar. Thanks!

Black wheels all around. But the same red and white guitar body colors! That's amazing. Are you reading my mind or something?

The boy in our pack that made it did a nice job. I'm not too sure how handy his dad or mom are with tools. I think it was mostly Philip that made it. I'm going to point out your Drift Away post to him and see what he thinks.

Say Aron,
You know them singing Hallmark cards from Walmart..
Some times have Led or fiber optic lights in them also.
And with the lights blinking & the music playing in these cars how cool would that be?
The inter workings and speaker in the cards are small enough to pack into derby cars.
Just an idea to look at if your kids would like to have there cars playing music also.

Just to kinda give your kids & you ideas for the car and music.
Hear are a few photos of the workings..
Image
One of the cards plays the song "Funkytown" by Steven Greenberg.
And the next plays the song "Talkin'about my Baby"by Fatboy Slim.
There are so many songs in these cards now or days..
even ones you can record your own favorite songs in to..
Like " She's Some Kind Of Wounderful" by Grand Funk RailRoad, Ect..
Here is what i like about these look at this photo!
Image
Thay have every thing you need.. And thay dont weigh that much also,
plus there around $8.00 & if you would like to add more lights.
Image
you get the idea.

Now if I could only come up with a Hallmark card that played the song..
"Low Rider From the Band WAR".
I'd like to try to do up the car like.. Ramone from the movie cars..
Haveing it playing the song while the lights blinked also.
And to make the car look as if it were bounceing to the music while it's going down the track.
Just ask someone if thay have any out of round wheels to get this car bounceing to the song.
Hopefuly you guys get the idea to haveing a car playing music with blinking lights it would be neat.
Here is one Go Bubba Go did up some time back thats Cool!
http://www.derbytalk.com/viewtopic.php?t=2596" target="_blank
And you know that little mirco switch Randy uses now on his fan power car.
Would work good to start the show off with at the drop of the starting peg.

Funny i say this now..because this idea just hit me while i was walmart looking for a card.
Here is that card i picked up that plays the song "All Right Now" by Paul Rodgers, Andrew Fraser
when you open the card up.
And a little some thing my dad would always say to me.
Image
Image
How cool would it be teaching your boys how to bend light?
By useing stuff like this on the end of the l.e.d lights to make your own fiber optic light,
guitar strings and have them light up to the beat of a song.
Image

Aron, this is the best tip that i can pass back your way if your boys are looking to do
something a little different for next year.
And :agree: on that smore car. :bigups:

Shawn, Thank you.
Make shure you show that Rock Star
Philip, how to light them strings up on his cool fender guitar car also. ;)
