Thank you...all trip the lights on our 32' wooden track at roughly 2.55-2.68{truck}..I knew the truck was going to be the slow one though. This saturday is the regionals and I hope we do well...it'll be fun either way.
Now to go search out some capacitors for next year's fan motored car!

Really like the Tiger Tires. Did you use a sharpie?

Actually it was a mechanical ink pen...much like a sharpie but the ink seems to wear/last longer-imho.

:welcome: cubmasterbob!

Nice job on all the cars and the cab over semi truck.
Did you run just the truck down the track or was it pulling a trailer?

Thank you...my 1st builds since a "very long" time!{the last builds were when I was in as a boy}
I used a flat wedge car chassis kit for the truck...no trailer. I know there may still be the official semi truck kits out there if I hunted around enough, but I went the easier route and built the cab on the car chassis. Regulation wheelbase here with the exception of the added, raised, spare wheels to mimic a dual drive tractor.
For those who may be interested, the "cab" is just 1/2" balsa wood planks...same for the gas tanks. Evergreen plastic tubes for the exhaust and air intake and the outer piece of a googely eye for the air intake hat. I removed 1/2" of car frame to accomodate the body thickness in front{bumper area}. Said car frame had weight in back, on top of the frame, that I filled in. When it was all done all I had to add was roughly 1/4 oz of extra weight to bring her to 5oz. 1/25 scale spare truck decals gave me the stripes and name badges.
There's a guy here who did the "Mr the King" car...really great work!...he really inspired me to build the truck in this way...while she wasn't the fastest thing on the track, the scouts really loved it - which made it worth the while.

ah8tk, Andy & Noah. ;)

Tell me about it thay can turn out some very cool looking cars & semi trucks.
Thay inspired me also to post a few of my own cars & trucks.
At the time I made my first scratch built semi truck there were no kits to be found in any Scout shops.
Just the one that our local Scout shop had on display in a show case.
And I was wanting to share with the kids the Big Rig 18 wheelers.
So the shop owner let me make a copy of the plans.
The truck I made back then ran a 2.6 for time it was pulling a flat bed
down a 35' Best track the kids loved it.
All 18 wheels were running flat on the track..no lifted or shaved wheels.
The only thing was the axels I used were from a photo hanging kit.
At the time. It was all I could find at the time to use for the back axels.
I just ran it for fun and to see what it would do for time.
I think I had just as must fun as the kids did watching it go down the track.

In someways I was hopeing that the next year thay would race the big rigs.
But the pack just stuck to the cars.
And in 2010 the big rig kits hit the shelfs once more.

Anyway nice job on your cars kids & the Big Rig Truck cubmasterbob.
And I'm going to have to build one like this.
Mark.

Wow, now I inspire others. That is great!

When you build to look like a real vehicle you just have to do things differently to keep the front end light enough so weight can be added to the rear to gain speed

These are definitely some very cool cars, with a lot of detail. It is great when you are looking around for something to accessorize your car and you just find the right part in something you never thought of.

Next year I plan on a conventional type tractor...I was nearly set on an old kenworth or pete cabover but at the last minute "something euro" hit me, so I went that route. I helps that I build model trucks in 1/25 scale, so I have plenty of references. I pine form it nearly comes out to 1/32 scale....nearly.
Andy sent me the plans for the Mr the King, but I kind of botched the smoothing of the bodywork....I'll get it right later, and he was right, it does go easier with the wing added afterwards!
I had a 40 plymouth touring sedan sorted out but never got back to the fenders...another "later" project.
If you happen to need decals or anything just give me a yell...I have spares around here.

Sir, seeing your work...how could you not help to inspire others?....seriously. Those "googley eye covers" I used make nice headlight covers for cars or trucks...or large fog lights or search lights.
Neccesity is the mother of invention and anyone's buildings of any type are only limited by they're own creativity and resources....the "wow" factor with the kids{or adults} never hurts either!
As you said, a lighter cab will help the racing aspect...next time around I'll use thinner balsa and hope I can get a double wow...fast and good looking.

Guys I use the wooden mushroom plugs / buttons to make the air intake hats.
Never thought of useing the googly eyes to make them with thanks for the ideas.

I suggest a fresh exacto blade and carefully cut around the side of the eye to remove the backing and inner google{for lack of better terms}...be careful not to cut yourself! When done they are usually uneven so I tape down a piece of 300-400 grit sand paper to a tabletop and use my fingers{triangulated} to sand them in a circular motion{a finger on top and sides lightly, use light pressure, and take your time}. I use either white glue to bond them onto whatever or "foam safe Ca"...the foam safe super glue won't white fog the clear plastic like regular super glue can.
